What shoes should I wear with skirts?

Oh dear, the ignominy of starting a style and beauty thread (like I care about these things!) but I need advice.

I tend to be a jeans and boots kind of girl but I might have to start wearing skirts more often and want to know what shoes I should buy to go with them. Not court shoes surely? I find them so uncomfortable. And not old ladies' lace up shoes either. Nothing with high heels (small heel fine) as I am tall enough without adding to it.

I just saw Cod's choice of footglove boots and was expecting to hate them but I actually like them (though doubt they would fit my feet) so my faith in Cod's shoe sense is restored, so Cod please feel free to post too.

Oh, one other thing, I have wide feet and my left foot is one and a half sizes bigger than my right foot so the shoes can't have a pointy toe and the uppers must be quite high.

But if you could just post links to the kind of shoe I should look for, then I can sort out the details.

TIA.

OMG when did you all decide that wearing Clarks shoes was ever acceptable for anyone over the age of 8?

They are all HIDEOUS, awful, horrible. Can you not SEE? Middleaged, matronly and so depressing they make me want to cry.

Malory, Cod, OPEN YOUR EYES!!!

PrincessPeaHead · 28/09/2008 20:49

Aurghh the bombay ones are the pits. LOOK at the heel! It is so dreadful. Reminds me of Miss Deacon, my middle aged, thick calved, sensible skirted O level English teacher... NOT a style icon I promise you

Oh malory I've just clicked on the disgusting grey patent ones and i think we can't be friends any more . Those cheap double straps and hideous buckles are too awful...

girlsnextdoor · 28/09/2008 20:51

what's wrong with looking glam in a school? glam does not equal overflowing bosoms out of tops, or teensy skirts- glam means looking grown up and attractive in a subtle way.
I think so many teachers dress down to the lowest common denominator- it is as if they are frightened of looking like normal women!

What is wrong with a knee length skirt- KEW have a couple of great ones in wool- one is slightly pleated and the other is more pencil-like- with cardi ( short-ish) or a shirt and tank top? Or trousers with a V neck sweater or cardi- but just get the fit right and nothing droopy and anonymous.

PrincessPeaHead · 28/09/2008 20:52

But they are so disgusting. Of course you don't want manolos, but there are so many other options out there

I am NOT a fan of M&S shoes, but any of their non-old-lady range would be 50x better than those revolting Clarks. I mean I wouldn't wear these out of choice, but if it was these or those grotesque grey patent Clarks, I'd be clutching these to my bosom in seconds

dodgy heel but teachers seem to like those - and the front is really not too bad

they are, the heel is gross, but still a LOT better than anything on the clarks website

mind you I've exhausted M&S now, every other shoe is the pits

get thee to russell & bromley, lots of nice stuff there this season (including some over the knee patent crocodile flat boots that I'd be wearing in a second if I was even 5 years younger.... sigh)

Tutter · 28/09/2008 21:04

hurrah re being Here - what do the prince/princessPHs think of their school(s)?

boo re house still unsold

no, did not see CL - anything to see online?

PrincessPeaHead · 28/09/2008 21:08

they have the identical deeply dodgy heel

maybe that is how they determine who to let into teacher training college. They show them a heel like that, and if the candidate fails to vomit, they are in.

I'd have failed that test miserably

PrincessPeaHead · 28/09/2008 21:09

yes tutt do a little PL search in wilts +2-4 and you'll see us

Tutt have a look at those shoes above and tell me I'm not mad... they all LIKE them and actually they are vomitaceous

PrincessPeaHead · 28/09/2008 21:10

minipphs are v happy in new school, it is a resounding success so far. helped by 2 having birthdays and therefore parties around now, nice to get everyone over and play at once etc
