What shoes should I wear with skirts?

Oh dear, the ignominy of starting a style and beauty thread (like I care about these things!) but I need advice.

I tend to be a jeans and boots kind of girl but I might have to start wearing skirts more often and want to know what shoes I should buy to go with them. Not court shoes surely? I find them so uncomfortable. And not old ladies' lace up shoes either. Nothing with high heels (small heel fine) as I am tall enough without adding to it.

I just saw Cod's choice of footglove boots and was expecting to hate them but I actually like them (though doubt they would fit my feet) so my faith in Cod's shoe sense is restored, so Cod please feel free to post too.

Oh, one other thing, I have wide feet and my left foot is one and a half sizes bigger than my right foot so the shoes can't have a pointy toe and the uppers must be quite high.

But if you could just post links to the kind of shoe I should look for, then I can sort out the details.

TIA.

I want the Clarks advert girl to straighten the lines on her tights - it is getting on my nerves.

Ok I am getting the idea. I have to go for what I would call a court shoe but it has a strap over it. Is that right?

That wouldn't go with black tailored trousers though would it? What would you wear with those?

Cod where do you get this idea I am petite? I am 5 feet 8 inches tall and a healthy dress size 12. I can virtually wear anything (according to people like Trinny and Susannah) except for, sadly things for large busts as I don't have a huge bust. Petite I am not. Size 6 referred to my hoofers!

defnitely Clarks. Best range of shoes ever in there at the moment. Boots not as great imo. Love those patent ones malory mentioned, in both the purple and the grey.

And there is a gorgeous purple patent bag in there at the moment too. Seem to remember someone on here was after one of those..

I would like to ask, what tops do you wear with skirts if you are ..shall I say large in the hip area. I have a wardrobe full of skirts but never wear them as I have top issues what do you wear??

NoblesseOblige · 28/09/2008 20:01

maryjanes (with or without heels) seem to go with most skirts but, to echo every one else, the key question here is length of skirt? calf length is sounding a little miss jean brodie-esque?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2008 20:02

I have never cared about fashion. I just want to be warm and comfortable!

Oops meant to say Miss Jean Brodie was far more stylish than I will ever be so I will take that as a compliment Noblesse!

these?

girlsnextdoor · 28/09/2008 20:03

just to add my twopenneth- mid calf and ankle length skirts are AGING.

I am 50-ish but size 10 (but look younger I am told), and I would not be seen dead in a calf length skirt- I USED to wear them years back, but they look matronly.

Knee length, either panelled or A line are smarter and younger.

Got the shoes MAlory mentioned- not in patent though as they were a tiny bit tight but the blackleather with big buckle on front.

she had a definite look, that is for sure! how about these?

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2008 20:05

LOL Dabbles.

I hate to mention the ankle length skirts I bought last year then.... One is so warm, it is like wearing a blanket round your legs - lovely!

Ummm, I am a matron, aren't I?

Ankle length skirts just destroy any shape anyone has. They make you look like a sack of potatoes- and they seem to be the uniform of primary school teachers trying to look as unsexy as possible. They also make larger people look larger. Sorry

Below the knee is just about okay especially with a boot with a bit of a heel, but flat boots and knee length skirts look younger and are still practical.
