What shoes should I wear with skirts?

Oh dear, the ignominy of starting a style and beauty thread (like I care about these things!) but I need advice.

I tend to be a jeans and boots kind of girl but I might have to start wearing skirts more often and want to know what shoes I should buy to go with them. Not court shoes surely? I find them so uncomfortable. And not old ladies' lace up shoes either. Nothing with high heels (small heel fine) as I am tall enough without adding to it.

I just saw Cod's choice of footglove boots and was expecting to hate them but I actually like them (though doubt they would fit my feet) so my faith in Cod's shoe sense is restored, so Cod please feel free to post too.

Oh, one other thing, I have wide feet and my left foot is one and a half sizes bigger than my right foot so the shoes can't have a pointy toe and the uppers must be quite high.

But if you could just post links to the kind of shoe I should look for, then I can sort out the details.

TIA.

Oh I would be in the per una category. I think that is preferable to black trousers and fleeces? really? fleeces? Is that allowed?

So you know the look I am going for then Malory, and you have just confirmed that it is a recognised teacher look. So I am doing ok then?

What about these

I have them and they are really comfy and go with most skirts I have (and with my jeans)

it must be a primary school thing- I used to be secondary and they shape up better.

I just think that working with kids all day is no excuse to look sexless.

Some primary teachers wear stuff that I wouldn't even do my gardening in- let alone do a professional job in. I know it is messy at times, but that's no excuse.

DumbledoresGirl · 28/09/2008 20:19

But Malory, I want to fit an image. I am supply teaching. I don't want to upset the natives with some glamorous outfit. I want to walk in to an unknown school and be acceptable to people.

I think it is fine for you to say you wear glam things because you are known by your colleagues and no doubt they respect other aspects of your personality but I can't afford to rock the boat.

If I don't go to Per Una, where can I get a similar look in clothes? (this is supposing I ever get enough work to be able to afford new stuff)

Oh and I agree that some primary school teachers dress disgracefully, but I disagree about the need to be glamorous or sexy on the job. That is more suited to one's social life, or the bedroom maybe, if dh plays his cards right.

Sorry mrspnut, did not mean to ignore you. They have style, but would not suit me.

I've got those in black (or v similar ones) and I love them. I wear them with just below the knee skirts and black opaques. Last week I wore them with a black pencil skirt and purple tights and they looked fab, if I may say so!

I'm a teacher too - must admit, I only wear the Mary Janes on days when I have at least one free lesson, so I can rest my toes!
