I really like these - am I delusional about their suitability for a woman in her forties?

Have always been a big DM fan but thought my wacky days were behind me until I saw these
Should I or shouldn't I? (Bearing in mind the other option is a sensible pair of knee length black boots.)

Are you a slim,funky,boho-ish babe ? or will you just look like someone who has actually owned them since the 80's?

If you were 60, with a grey pixie cut then I would think they would look great.

Nbg · 04/09/2008 14:47

The first ones nearly killed me through their sheer grimmness, however, there are alot of DM/biker stylee boots out there atm for autumn winter and I think you could get away with the second ones. Team them up with a good denim skirt, tights etc.
I actually quite like them.

Here are some
and here
and again
Complete DM rip off

The rugged look is back!

StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 14:48

You lot are no fun at all! So, er, what's good in Clarks this season?

Fimbo · 04/09/2008 14:50

I don't personally like them - my sil has these.

If you do go for them check out Amazon, my sil paid £70 for hers in Schuh but they are 1/2 price on Amazon and I didn't have the heart to tell her.

StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 14:50

Xpost NBG! I like the first ones a lot.

OP posts:
Nbg · 04/09/2008 14:52

Really really dont get the first ones.
You'll upset me if you do

StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 14:52

I should probably have mentioned - I still have my 80s purple ones with green laces and last year I got a pair of black patent DM rip-offs so I have form on this matter.

OP posts:
StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 14:53

No I meant the first ones you linked to!
(Although obviously I like the first ones I linked to enough to court the contempt and ridicule of the entire MN style council.)

marymungoandmidge · 04/09/2008 14:55

Like DMs - but not this colour...grey suede maybe? Found my saved pair from the 80's the other day and my husband HATES them.....he's not necessarily a fcuk me shoe man either !

Nbg · 04/09/2008 15:07

Ah right.

So you see, that particular "look" doesnt look all that bad. So long as you get it all right.

KnitterInTheNW · 04/09/2008 15:13

I wore black DMs, purple ones and flowery ones in the early 90s when I was a proper indie kid.

I bought these a few years ago and they're soooo comfy. I love them.

SuperSillyus · 04/09/2008 15:16

I'm 41 and I am wearing some textured red dms at this very moment! I love the gold ones...get them!
Part of the joy of being this age is that I've developed my own style, I'll wear what I like! ~I have no intention of following sensible style fashion or looking sedate- boring

YohoAhoy · 04/09/2008 15:24

I must own up to having both a pair of purple DM boots and a pair of new rock-ish black/purple boots. And I love wearing them.

And I am 41.

However, as a sop to my "not-Aygness-Deyn"-ness, I do only wear them under jeans.

They make me feel good on my "why-am-I-no-longer-a-funky-teenager" days, while being discreet enough not to have people pointing and laughing at me in the streets.

If this is your aim, then I would wholeheartedly recommend this course of action.

I have smart/classic boots for other occasions

they are gross

Mercy · 04/09/2008 15:36

I think you should buy them and wear them to the Christmas MN meet up.

(agree with Anniemac)

Surely only for hiking?

At a push to wear with trousers. But never never with a dress unless you are 17 and a model.

netwitch · 04/09/2008 15:56

Id wear either of those StellaDallas and Im 42, I could'nt give a shit what anyone thinks

StellaDallas · 04/09/2008 16:07

Today I am wearing a kneelength black knitted dress from Topshop and black opaque tights. I thought the gold DMs would go nicely.

OP posts:
MadameCastafiore · 04/09/2008 16:09

You could wear them in bed where no one would see you - actually I wouldn't even do that DH would take the piss too much!

Stick to safe black knee length!

jalopy · 04/09/2008 16:15

No. Greenham Commonesque.

PortBlacksandResident · 04/09/2008 16:34

Stella - love em. I really do. And thanks for the opportunity for some DM porn.

I have three pairs at the mo - knee length purple, knee length black and classic cherry.

I'm 34 - do i care?

As an aside: Why do women cut all their hair off too when they reach 40? V. Odd!

Miaou · 04/09/2008 16:34

I have these ones and love them, they are soooo comfy! I love the idea of the flowery ones but I can't really justify more footwear. I've also got DM Mary Janes (two pairs, one purple and one green!)

I don't wear what other people like, I wear what I like. Do the same!

pagwatch · 04/09/2008 16:35

I personally think they are gross
But I also think that being delusional once you reach your 40's is actually a really good idea.
