Who wears Guerlain Mitsouko perfume?

According to something I read recently, it is the most classic perfume ever created or something like that. I have never smelt it. Anyone enlighten me?

I do have it but I think it is definitely an acquired taste! I tend to wear it if I am going somewhere particularly nice for the evening as it is quite 'sophisticated' - if you know what I mean?

Anyway, I am sure people either love it or hate it but it is one of those 'grande dame' perfumes that is a nice change from the ultra-modern stuff everyone seems to wear.

bigspender30 · 03/09/2008 15:25

i think I will have a sniff the next time I am in town!

It is a great classic, but if you are used to flowery or sweet-smelling perfumes, you are in for a shock. It is really woody & spicy rather than sweet, though it dries down to a warm, spicy, amber-y smell. 'Modern' perfumes just don't smell like this.

RubySlippers · 03/09/2008 19:48

i used to wear it

i LOVED it

2loudboys is right about the smell

ilovemydog · 03/09/2008 19:53

apparently it's mrs thatcher's favorite!

Dozymare · 03/09/2008 19:57

My MIL wears it, along with Poison

Tutter · 03/09/2008 19:59

it was in the sunday times

have to say that i read that article and thought "they're running out of material for articles"

and it was their lead article

Marina · 03/09/2008 20:00

I wear it in the winter, I think it is too spicy and strong for summer.
I love it it smells real IYSWIM
Agree with HelenMc1 that it is probably a love-hate thing.

cheesesarnie · 03/09/2008 20:00

never smelt it but sounds nice

JRocks · 03/09/2008 20:16

I haven't treid that one, but I do have Guerlain's Mahora, which has now been discontinued It's quite powerful, they must specialise in blow your head off scents

JRocks · 03/09/2008 20:17

tried

tissy · 03/09/2008 20:19

Me!

DH gave me a humungous bottle for my birthday (salesgirl in JL persuaded him they have discontinued the small bottles)

Was once given a bottle of Samsara, but to me it smelled like Mr Sheen!

Marina · 03/09/2008 20:19

They have retained their best vintage ones - Jicky, Shalimar, L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko. Those blends are 80 years old in some cases More about Guerlain

Marina · 03/09/2008 20:21

I don't like Samsara either tissy. LOL at Mr Sheen, you can imagine it lifting the veneer off any polished/painted wood!
I wear their Mandarine Basilic Aqua Allegoria in the summer. Definitely my favourite parfumeur.

I am gutted about the Mrs T thing too Jules! Horrified in fact...

MrsMuddle · 03/09/2008 21:25

Yeah, I wear it in the evening. I've worn it off and on for about 20 years, and it makes me really happy when I wear it.

FrannyandZooey · 03/09/2008 21:26

my mum does

tissy · 03/09/2008 21:27

I like the Lily of the Valley Acqua Allegoria, too, but haven't seen it recently.

miomaolalalalala · 04/09/2008 12:05

my mother wears it..also opium and samsara....they are quite 'heavy' perfumes and suit an older person (eek! sorry) i dont' like them, they've been ruined by too many memories of my mother wafting out the front door in a cloud of perfume with her silver fox fur coat on in a cruella fashion.

bigspender30 · 04/09/2008 13:02

I am intrigued now however not sure I want to smell like Mrs Thatcher!

I wear it - dabble with others every now and again, but always come back to Mitsuko. When I put it on, I feel like me!
I love it so much, there's nothing like it and everytime I wear it, something interesting happens!
Am slightly worried because I am also partial to a Mrs T type handbag - it doesn't bode well...

bigspender30 · 04/09/2008 13:58

Katiekitty, you will be going to the hairdressers for a style and set soon!!
