Who wears Guerlain Mitsouko perfume?

According to something I read recently, it is the most classic perfume ever created or something like that. I have never smelt it. Anyone enlighten me?

I like Mitsouko but I read about the Mrs T association years ago and I'm afraid it's always put me off! I suppose if you don't find yourself donning pussycat-bow blouses you're ok!

Guerlain make my favourites - I love L'Heure Bleu and Apres L'Ondee, which is a total bugger to get hold of (ebay!). Remember reading something by India Knight that said all these old Guerlain blends smell slightly dirty (sexy-dirty, not grubby-dirty) and I hate to admit it, but she's right, they do.

MusicBugs · 04/09/2008 23:02

My mother in law wears it and she smells wonderful, it makes me want to hug her

I have always associated it with the more 'mature' lady though!

MrsSchadenfreude · 06/09/2008 10:10

MamaHobgoblin - John Lewis do Apres l'Ondee.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/09/2008 19:57

I have Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleu and Shalimar, L'Heure Bleu being my favourite; have worn these alternately for years. They are gorgeous, but as said above very strong, not at all like modern scents. What I love is that they change scent the longer you wear them (or they do on me) and last all day.

My baby brother ignored my love for Guerlain and bought me Paris Hilton perfume for Christmas (much to my mum's shrieking hilarity!). Needless to say it is awful.

Lauriefairycake · 07/09/2008 20:00

I wear Mitsouko, L'heure Bleue and another Guerlain oldie, Vol de Nuit in a rotation.

I love them

fillybuster · 07/09/2008 22:00

I checked out Mitsouko in Selfridges this week following the same article...DH wasn't too sure but I'm very tempted to treat myself to a bottle - very different and very unflowery....I usually wear citrussy scents but was surprised how much I liked it

Marina · 07/09/2008 22:04

All my other faves are citrussy filly (O de Lancome, Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic, Acqua di Parma and Eau d'Hadrien) but Mitsouko does have that down and dirty certain something, as mamahobgoblin says.
I never thought I could say this but I think I'd sooner smell like Mrs T than Paris Hilton. He'll have to go Getorfmoiland, that's the parfumerie equivalent of buying your wife a Dustbuster

Hadassah · 07/09/2008 22:10

I always think it is like Shalimar but without the sweetness, and is a lovely perfume.

hoppybird · 11/09/2008 12:19

Guerlain perfumes have a real 'classic' smell about them - instantly recognisable but not at all common (ie worn by lots of people so they become a cliche).

The one I have been wearing for many years is Guerlain's Nahema. Anybody else out there wear it (or even heard of it?) It is quite unusual - apparently it is "hyacinth, ylang-ylang, rose and peach, all of which are layered over a vanilla tonka bean and balsam base." Sounds overpowering, but smells wonderful on, well, the right person! Hard to find though.

bigspender30 · 11/09/2008 12:53

I asked in Boots about Mitsouko on Saturday( should have known better really) as the woman told me it was a fragrance for the more mature lady and smelt of limes ( talking bollocks I think) but they didn't stock it and she made me feel like I was far too young to even considering thinking about it!!

Hoppy, I went through a Nahema phase. Smells quite rosy on me (in a very grown up way ). And I also went through a Parure phase (don't think they make it any more) which is v. strong and spicy. In fact, I've been steadily working my way through Guerlain's perfumes since I was 17!! Have tried most of them now. Love them all for different reasons, but some more than others .

hoppybird · 11/09/2008 16:49

2loudboys, Nahema smells rosy on me too - it has tremendous warmth and depth you just don't get with other 'rose' fragrances. The topnotes also remind ne of brand new paper!

Guerlain fragrances in general have a lot of depth - seems that once you try them, you stay pretty much faithful to the range, or at least keep coming back to old favourites.

This is interesting - tells you what perfumes the stars used/are using. Lots of the old film stars liked Mitsouko. although the Jean Harlow connection is a bit

annekeberdina · 19/10/2013 17:17

Have been using Mitsouko and L'Heure Blue for over 30 years. Think luxury, Orient Express, spices, Bulgarian roses, Zelda Fitzgerald "Tender is the Night" "The Great Gatsby". Get the idea? Spritz after you get up and smell heavenly all day long! My grand daughter loves it too!

MasterOfTheYoniverse · 19/10/2013 17:27

Oh my heart skipped a beat when i saw this thread title.....and then mention of Nahema......so real women wearing real perfume still exist....

Uniquelyjoanna · 14/11/2015 20:13

I've loved it for years. Ever since I read an article calling it 'the ultimate darkside scent'...I think it's sexy and warm...but I know it's not to all tastes. I'm a teacher...and the other day a kid said 'you're wearing old granny perfume'...ah.
But then. I wouldnt wear Impluse as a scent so I guess we just agree to differ.
A woman who wears Mitsouko is a real woman. (Mrs T notwithstanding. ..we'll ignore that bit I think ). It's a confident scent...classy but very sensual.
And it goes through many phases. For me the first notes are spice and leather. Followed by soft spicy peach.
But everyone gets it differently. That's it's beauty.

Uniquelyjoanna · 14/11/2015 20:16

And please excuse the autocorrect error...its beauty NOT it's. ..agh.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/11/2015 00:03

I love Mitsouko - to me it smells of posh old ladies and churches. I wear it every winter.

FrustratedFrugal · 15/11/2015 08:11

I have a purse atomizer version of the perfume from the 1980s and it's magical. If you are new to perfume, you might not appreciate Mitsouko - I didn't. For many people, classics are hard as everyone has a great aunt or grandma who wore them.

Lots of people like Chanel no. 5 too, and some of them must be Texans with helmet hair. If you find a thing of true beauty, it will have other admirers, that really doesn't bother me.

Mehitabel6 · 15/11/2015 08:14

I used to wear it. Guerlain are my favourite perfume makers.

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/11/2015 08:54

Ignore people saying it's 'old lady' - it won't be, if it's reclaimed by the next generation! Think of all the granny chic names that have been revitalised in recent years.

I'm not a Mitsouko wearer, but my signature perfume for the last 20 years has been Jardin de Bagatelle. Absolutely love old school Guerlain.

AgentCooper · 15/11/2015 08:57

My mum has worn in for years and I love it. It suits her, she's very elegant.

AgentCooper · 15/11/2015 08:59

Thatcher wore it?! Fuck, I'd better not tell my mum. Her dad was a miner.

getoffthattabletnow · 15/11/2015 09:14

Not me.I love Nahema (though the Parfum is discontinued from next year )and Champs Elysees.

MissBattleaxe · 15/11/2015 09:22

Mitsouko is a classic chypre and they are sadly outnumbered these days by the vanilla and caramel overkill that seems to be every bleedin' where.

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 15/11/2015 09:27

Ha Joanna, I get that a lot from kids at school. I was wearing Black Vetiver the other day and I got "eww I smell liquorice" Philistines. I love Mitsouko too, most dirty perfumes in fact.
