Who wears Guerlain Mitsouko perfume?

According to something I read recently, it is the most classic perfume ever created or something like that. I have never smelt it. Anyone enlighten me?

I've worn it for years. I can't imagine not having a bottle I love it so much along with some of the older Guerlains like Shalimar, Apres L'ondee, Vol de Nuit, Jicky etc.

Diaghilev used to wear it too.

Wolpertinger · 15/11/2015 09:44

Guerlain are my favourites. I started with a pack of Guerlain decants - and it's made me very very fussy about perfume!

Mitsouko is v wearable for every day. My favourite would be Apres l'Ondee which I wish they would bring back in Parfum. Vol de Nuit is so beautiful it would make you cry. Shalimar (the original, not modern versions thanks) is positively skanky, needs to be the right occasion for it.

Samsara on the other hand I really can't get on with as it's like a giant 80s battering ram of perfume.

Savagebeauty · 15/11/2015 09:52

I was bought my first bottle of Chamade at 14, and 41 years later I still love it.
Samsara gives me a headache...far too powerful for me

thebestfurchinchilla · 15/11/2015 09:54

My DM used to wear it. It's lovely, quite unique but I don't think I could carry it off. Nice bottle too.

AgentProvocateur · 15/11/2015 09:56

I was going to reply, and then I noticred that I replied in 2008 under a previous name! I've been here too long. Wink

Ooh while on a perfume thread. I love Eau Dynamisante by Clarins but I know it's only a cologne so the scent never lasts long enough. I just wish they'd make an eau de perfume version. Anyone know of a similar scent in a perfume? Sorry to hijack ,OP!

captainfarrell · 15/11/2015 09:58

PARFUM! Flippin autocorrect!

Jemimapuddleduk · 15/11/2015 10:00

I used to wear it but went off it during my first pregnancy and can't get back into it. The powdery peach smell now seems overwhelming. It's strange as I also went off shalimar but I am glad to say that was temporary and I am now in love with it again!

aniceearlynight · 15/11/2015 22:10

I have a passion for Guerlain. My favourite is Apres l'Ondee but I am currently having a Shalimar moment. My second favourite is probably L'Heure Bleue then Mitsouko then Vol de Nuit.

MuttonWasAGoose · 15/11/2015 22:16

I've worn it for years. Shalimar, too. I agree that Guerlain makes beautiful scents. Well the classic ones, anyway.

Greengardenpixie · 15/11/2015 22:38

This is a zombie thread???
Margaret Thatcher is now dead!
As for the perfume, mmm..i would love to try it. Sounds exactly my thing.

GoinSouth · 02/01/2022 16:03

I wear this.. I recently bought a new bottle at the age of 55 - the last time I wore it was when I was 18 and it brings memories flooding back of those expressive years (and leather!). I absolutely love it.. classic, dominant, unique - not for the faint-hearted. I think it's like marmite - love or hate it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 02/01/2022 16:09

@tissy

I like the Lily of the Valley Acqua Allegoria, too, but haven't seen it recently.
The Allegoria range is changing all the time, if you like one buy a back up bottle because most of them come and go.
mewkins · 02/01/2022 16:14

I have a bottle. But it makes me feel queasy. There is something peachy about it and I can't wear it. I'm not against old smelling perfumes either, it just makes me feel sick.

MyfanwyMontez · 02/01/2022 16:18

Reminds me of Jilly Collins.

Craftycorvid · 02/01/2022 18:44

I have worn Mitsouko and do like it, but it always disappears on me in quite a short time. Upset to learn Thatcher liked it 😬. I much prefer unusual or old school fragrances. So many perfumes these days just smell sickly or like something a teenager would wear.

balkanscot · 02/01/2022 23:23

Another one upset at the MT reference! Shock I absolutely love it and wear it every day from October until February. Despite my love for it I can’t imagine wearing it during the Spring/Summer months.

I also have a soft spot for Jean Patou’s Joy, another vintage one. And I adore Byzance, one of those headache/migraine inducing 1980s ones. My very sophisticated English teacher used to wear it and just one sniff of it takes me back to the classroom. Gutted they discontinued it - apparently it has been resurrected recently but according to reviews it bears no real resemblance to the original.

Anordinarymum · 02/01/2022 23:28

L'Heure Bleue is lovely.
Has anyone ever had Diorissimo by Christian Dior? It is wonderful

Auldspinster · 02/01/2022 23:31

I bought my first bottle of Mitsouko when I was 23, now 46 and still love it. Also love Nahema.
Femme by Rochas is another peachy chypre, bit blousier than Mitsouko but perfect for this time of year.

wankywomble · 02/01/2022 23:51

I was bought my first bottle at 18 and I recently got bought a bottle from DH. It is a filthy sexy sensual smell and I love the different layers that you just don't get with more modern perfume

I too adore Diorissimo, such a beautiful clean, fresh, lily of the valley fragrance.

I don't own a bottle of Mitsouko but I have a small decant. I didn't like it at first but it's growing on me and I will buy a bottle, I think.

Shalimar is my great Guerlain love. On me it's wonderful, a citrus opening, a delicious smoky spicy middle and a floral dry down. It suits my skin chemistry perfectly.

Loving this thread - it's a very old zombie that I'm actually pleased has been reanimated Smile

Yes - that's it! Filthy sexy (I used to wear a lot of leather back in my youth - height of the 80s).. and this smell takes me right back to those um, 'expressive' days.
MissBattleaxe · 05/01/2022 18:20

The descriptions on here are spot on. It took me a while to come round to it but now I love it so much it's top of my birthday list. It's a classic and not at all like the many sweet fragrances of today.

magicstar1 · 05/01/2022 18:26

My mother wears it, and she’s in her 70’s. We also remember Princess Diana sometimes wore it....so that helps offset Margaret Thatcher.
