I bought a little bra for 8 year-old dd

And she loves it! She begged me to buy it and she has worn it non-stop for 2 days! She even wanted to sleep in it!

Of course she is nowhere near being able to fill it, but it is just a little trainy type one from Gap.

At first I thought it was really sweet, but now it makes me feel a bit sad. She is going to need a real one soon enough...and then she will have to wear the damn thing for the rest of her life!

i wouldnt ever have done that to be honest, my dd at 9 3\4 actually needs one and has just got a couple.
Even then it's not a bra as such, more of a crop top style bra

Little girls don't need bras. Not even little trainer-type bras. Not even ones that aren't meant to be real bras.

Sorry, I don't want to be rude and that may not be what you posted for, but your post has made me very sad too. I have a seven year old, and I cannot imagine feeling the need to buy her in a bra when she's 8. They grow up too quickly as it is, without putting them into teenage gear before they are really ready for it

wig wam bam, my dd sadly needs one, and I have held back and held back but it's just all ummm very obvious, so she's got some.
Having said that, she's 4ft 7inches, 5stone (very tall & slim) size 3 feet and obviously maturing!

It's dreadful that you can get bras for that age. Sorry jj but I just would not have bought it. I'm a bit shocked actually.

Your daughter is nearly 10 though, QOD. Mine will probably need one by that age too, the way she is going.

my DD is 91/2 and is starting to blossom but will not buy her a bra til she actually needs one.

I was in New Look today looking for a bikini for DD (10) in their sale.

I couldnt get a normal one without padded cups!! Had to get a tankini instead.

I got my dd a couple of those bras from Woolworth's which are actually short vests - because she was the only girl in her class wearing vests and it embarrassed her when changing for PE. Are those the things you're talking about?

Um, okay....

I really just bought it as an alternative to vest tops for when the weather is warm and she needs to undress for PE.

I did not seriously buy it to force her to grow up and she does still wear age appropriate clothing. Saying it is "sick" is a bit sick IMO. Why is a bra sexualising anything??!! If I had got a black lacy, padded La Senza number, then yes maybe.

Come on now people...

Feel a bit sorry for OP. She's not dolled her 8-year-old up in heels and lipstick and sent her out clubbing. It's just a bra. Not too different from a little girl playing with a doll's buggy (just like mummy) or a pretend phone (just like mummy) etc.

I don't see how it's sexualising the little girl. My 2-year-old was thrilled recently when a horrid princess doll on the front of a magazine came with a bra and knickers under her dress ("now put on your bra Princess... and where are your breast pads?") - bra's are just something that mummy wears like ties are something that daddy wears for example.
