Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.
Apologies for belated new thread.

Good suit www!

Come on out ureb. Why are you hiding ?

MavisGrind · 05/08/2008 11:29

Hello all, just marking this for lurking purposes mainly .

L&S - I was thinking about you the other day (which in itself I found a bit odd as I don't actually 'know' you) and reflecting on my relationship with dh after ds was born. I think the thing that shocked me most was how fiercely I love ds - quite unlike anything I've felt before - and I think this really made me question whether or not I loved dh as I didn't feel for him what I felt for ds. Just a thought, and apologies if a little trite, but becoming a mother knocked me sideways in that respect. Good luck with your thinking.

Have just eaten a bag of crips and the talk of ice cream earlier on the thread has reminded me of a pot of choc ice cream in the freezer. Well, we leave in 4 days, wouldn't do to waste it!

Hope everyone else is fine and dandy

suzywong · 05/08/2008 11:31

I have been doing the IPD for 2.5 months now, 8ks down, 3 more to go
I have stalled a little in recent weeks but I blame that on getting used to the mirena coil and ramming lots of fatty charcuterie down my neck. OH and also dessertspoonfuls of peanut butter.
Chinese spiced slow roast pork belly tonight. No carbs of course so it's all super healthy.

Is there really a ladies' outfitters called Charles Twitwit or is WWW having a laugh

WideWebWitch · 05/08/2008 11:44

Sw, it's really Charles Tyrwhitt, I was joking about twitwit

I would just like to announce that I am wearing my jeans that I haven't worn since before ds2. They are admittedly a size 16, but they are comfortable. And the clothes I bought for the wedding I'm going to in the summer look 10 times better than they did in the shop. And the summer dress that looked really horrible (a bit like this but red looks ok. Not great but ok. And I'm feeling so motivated atm!

Just wanted to say that!

thanks everyone for all the sympathy and advice

I think the work is ok and I've worked full time before...I think the commute is what's getting to me plus I think I've found it harder this time (working full time) now that the kids are older. I think it's because they can express their feelings easier and appear to want me more (though it may be that when they were babies, they were unable to express all that!).

Big sigh. Anyway, nearly time for holidays and work has, miraculously, been easier this week and I've been able to leave on time and get home before 7 which is nice!

marina - hope you have a good hol

batters - I think Kew sizes come up VERY small. I tried on a medium top the other day and was terrified I was going to split the seams when I tried to take it off and you know what, I'm not THAT large (normally size 12 but I do have large shoulders!).

for pms - I found fish oils did the trick too. The biggest trick is remembering to take them though. Something I always manage to forget. I see a gynae who is an expert in PMS and he's always doing trials and some such. Think they recently did one on eating more dairy and vit D and it showed positive results but I didn't look in detail. Think it's a question of finding the right thing for you i.e. a right PITA!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 05/08/2008 21:23

Much depression in the Saggar household this evening.

ds1 had his 'recall' interview for the police today and he didn't get through. He's gutted and because he's been deferred once he has to start all over again. It wouldn't be so bad if it was something specific he could work on but its basically that he's not mature enough and lacks life experience. He's not just hacked off about the job but also because it would have mean't him having/being able to afford to move out. Not that he hates us mind but he does have to share with ds2 and it can't be any fun being a messy bugger sharing with an obsessive compulsive. His life plan is on hold and he is less than cheerful.

On the up side, my sister is over from Barcelona tomorrow. It's a year since I've seen her. She usually comes bearing gifts of wine

Well done on the jeans Ts. Can you lend me some motivation? - gym was bad today, had leaden legs and complete lack of commitment.

tortoiseSHELL · 05/08/2008 22:08

Motivation coming your way......pfffff......that was it! Hope you got it! Sorry for your ds1. I think both the police and the fire service are really hard to get into, but it doesn't sound like a definite no, just a not yet.

Just been to see Mamma Mia which was fun! But there is something very wrong about Colin Firth in Abba gear...

Thanks for your advice on the other thread www - will let you know what we do!

unknownrebelbang · 05/08/2008 23:16

Oh no Saggars! Was thinking about him the other day. He must be gutted.

He CAN apply again, and he will, even though it's a longhaul.

WideWebWitch · 06/08/2008 09:08

oh poor ds saggars

ts well done ln jeans!

oi, i cannot believe how much less tired i feel for being on holiday and not commuting this week, you have 3 days to go...

yesterday

bacon, sausage, black pudding and mushrooms ina a cafe for lunch1
rare roast beef and horseradish
wine

if any of you watched holby city last night, there was a character with my rl name in it because my couin wrote the episode! don't watch it myself, my sister texted me to tell me.

Hello (tentatively peeping in the room)

Is there room for a new bootcamp member? Your bootcamp sounds just what I need.

cerys · 06/08/2008 09:53

Welcome Scanner! This is a very friendly group

How lovely.

DH and I have been talking for years about how we should eat better, drink less, do some exercise, although apart from some vague attempts we've never really stuck with it. However, we've just had a huge kick up the backside as dh was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. It's very treatable and fingers crossed all will be ok, but it's made us realise that there is no magical day where we all of a sudden become mr and Mrs healthy, we have to do it now.

In the meantime, I'm waiting for a delivery from TMLewin of some shirts for work, never used them before so am keen to see what they're like.

We are supposed to be away next week, but we're waiting for some more results tomorrow and a better weather forecast.

www - your food sounds lovely and most inspirational.

cerys · 06/08/2008 10:08

Scanner, so sorry to hear about your DH - this happened to my DH this year too. He had the lump removed and doesn't need further treatment at the moment, but will be having check ups every 2 months for the next year. It was such a shock.

I just got some books from amazon on foods which can help when you have cancer - I'll let you know if they are any good.

WWW always has fab sounding food

better go, the DDs are putting make-up on themselves and on DS - he has pink nails, LOL.

tortoiseSHELL · 06/08/2008 11:11

Hi Scanner - sorry to hear about your dh, and yours too cerys. But welcome to the group!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/08/2008 12:30

Hello scanner - welcome. I'm sorry about your dh - hope he continues to make a good recovery. I agree about 'doing things now' - we've had some stuff happen over the years that makes you wake up and smell the coffee so to speak.

Bootcamp has given me a healthier liver, better looking feet and a shortlived but happy visit to being under 10st. I'm trying to get back there again

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say hello and I think about you all often (and miss you) but I do hope to be back here regualrly again soon.

Winnie xxxx

moonshine · 06/08/2008 18:18

Hello Winnie - lovely to see you again. Has the time away been good for you?

Hello too to Scanner - so sorry to hear about your dh (and fingers crossed for your dh too Cerys). People are lovely on this thread but some of them just can't seem to stick to the bootcamp for very long (whistles belligerently and looks away to hide blushes).

Saggars - probably not much consolation but agree it sounds like a 'not just now' as opposed to a 'never'. Mind you my nephew went down the same road and ended up training to be an accountant .

Now I am supposed to be hardcore this week but I am so feckin useless at refusing free booze and food (Summer party yesterday). And I now have been invited to a birthday lunch tomorrow. So i am going to skulk in the dark corners this week and glow at size 12 jeans, regular visits to gym and lovely food that is helping you reach your goal [exits stage right].

cerys · 06/08/2008 18:31

Shall I post my food for today?

porridge
kitkat

ham rolls, crisps and a mini roll (eaten by the beach in my friend's rented beach hut)

water, tea and coffee

grapes (they are fruit, you know)

tonight I am going to a Thai restaurant

See, this bootcamping lark is easy

WideWebWitch · 06/08/2008 18:56

Hello all

WINNIE! How are you? Welcome back!

Batters, that sounds like a top night out, they usually are with dodgy women ime and at your dd saying you;d look a fraek in jeans. My prince is indeed home and happy. He goes on holiday with my mum on Sunday for 2 weeks though, I WISH I had more time off n the holidays. Never mind, next year hey.

Cerys, yes, v good bootcamping, enjoy the Thai

Scanner, sorry to hear about your dh and I hope this thread helps a bit with the being healthy stuff. It makes me think a bit more about what I eat as I know I will come and post it later.
