How should knee high boots fit?

I’m looking to get some knee high boots and wondered how they’re supposed to fit around the calf.

All the styles I’ve tried so far seem to gape quite a lot at the top, so I’m wondering whether that’s just how they’re meant to look nowadays, or whether I should be looking for a closer fit.

Is a looser fit currently fashionable, or should knee high boots sit fairly snugly around the leg?

I’m planning to wear mine with tights and a skirt, not with jeans tucked in.

I’ve been looking at knee high boots and there seem to be a mixture. I prefer them close fitting on me. But I don’t know what the consensus is

I have very slim legs and ankles and find that a lot of boots look like I'm wearing wellies even though I only take size 3!

I'd suggest you look at Duo Boots.

I’ve got some good ones from Next, they’re tight on the leg but not real suede unfortunately

Thanks all, that’s very helpful. It sounds like maybe I need to look at some different brands.

@Petrine - wellies is an excellent comparison, that’s exactly how I feel!

@minnowonthesay thanks, this is exactly the style that I’m looking for but I think I’ve already tried these ones and they were too big.

I’ve never had this problem before. I’m quite slim now, having recently lost weight, but I’ve always had fairly muscular calves and used to struggle to find boots that were wide enough. That’s why I’m finding it so surprising that I now have the opposite problem. I was wondering whether it’s simply down to current fashion trends.

I have thin calfs and get them from duo boots as don’t like the welly look!

I don't like the Welly look. I have a pair of knee highs from Stuart Weitzmann. They are skin tight

minnowonthesay · Yesterday 21:25

I have the Stuart Weitzmans from R & B too @Doggymummar with the elastic back, they just don’t stay up, they sort of bunch around my ankles, very annoying as they were not cheap

I have lace up boots to fit my apparently skinny calves. I hate the flappy Welly look and feeling

Does anyone know if any knee high boots that are leather but without the welly look?

Mosaic80 · Yesterday 23:31

I think the looser on the leg look is more “in” now which I like as I have big feet and slim legs so I’ve never been able to find knee boots that fit. I have a high pair that are sort of cognac brown I think and they look good slouched slightly down and a black flat pair that are nice slightly loose. Jones the boot maker do slim fit styles if you prefer that though: www.jonesbootmaker.com/collections/womens-slim-calf-boots
