So I went to the H Beauty Carnival today and thought I’d share my thoughts, like I did last year too.
It felt a bit chaotic when we arrived. It wasn’t particularly clear where we were meant to queue, some people had physical tickets, and although it was supposed to start at 9am, we were still waiting to be let in at 9:05. By that point, I was even more convinced I was in the wrong place and wondering what the heck was going on 🤣
It was absolutely heaving inside, so I struggled to have a proper look around. One of the main reasons I decided to go was the Dior masterclass, which advertised using the holiday collection. Having bought some of it myself, I was really interested to see it in action. I even got excited when I saw two girls sitting in the Dior chairs, thinking they might be getting one of the holiday eyeshadow palettes each 😂 I was right at the front of the queue, too. Sadly, the only holiday collection item used was the sequin lip gloss, in a shade I already have from last year, so it was a bit of an anticlimax 🤣
There were a few other differences from last year. No special cocktails this time, the samples seemed smaller, and the luxe ticket no longer included a full-size product alongside the samples. Instead, you just got to choose an extra sample. I know the ticket was only £15, so I’m not expecting the world, but it did feel like a bit of a downgrade.
The hook-a-ball game was underwhelming too. I was trying to concentrate on picking a good ball when the lady running it started shouting at me for my ticket despite handing me the rod and telling me to go ahead. The prizes weren't particularly exciting either and felt quite cheap.
I think what made it more disappointing was that we'd got up at 5am and had a four-hour round trip, so it was a whole day out for us. Compared with last year, it just didn't feel quite as special.
I'm glad I went, and it was still nice to have a browse, try a few perfumes and see what was on offer. I did come away with a few things I was happy with, but I don't think I'll be rushing to book again next year.
Although, if I do go again, I might make sure I'm there early and head straight to the Dior counter to get my makeup done 🤣
