Welcome to the 12th thread, we still have 50 days till the daily unboxing officially starts, although I very much doubt any of our calendars will remain untouched until then 😂
Still time for lots more friendly chat, tips and discount codes - to cut down on links as a poster requested, here's link to some very comprehensive run-downs of the calendars https://beauty-detective.com/category/beauty-advent-calendars/
When enjoying those breakdowns please remember that some are OOS already - Harrod's Fragrance, Harrod's Beauty and Selfridges Beauty to name a few.

@NC543210 Wow!

Peridot1 · 14/10/2026 12:20

Wow @NC543210. That is a shocking response.

NC543210 · 14/10/2026 12:22

Appalling isn't it.
Going to speak to my bank again
I'm sure this isn't even legal.

Have they offered you a refund for the product? Just wondering if they have but you've refused that as you want to keep the rest. If so I'm not sure it's illegal. But I'm sure it's your right to a refund if you don't want the product now.

The law says:

Items bought online, by mail or phone
Online, mail and telephone order customers have the right to cancel their order for a limited time even if the item is not faulty. Sales of this kind are known as ‘distance selling’.
You must offer a refund to customers if they’ve told you within 14 days of receiving their item that they want to cancel. They have another 14 days to return the item once they’ve told you.
You must refund the customer within 14 days of receiving the item back. They do not have to provide a reason. You cannot deduct any fees from their refund, unless the item has been used or damaged.
You must also refund the cost of standard delivery if the customer paid for it. If they paid for a more expensive delivery option, you only need to refund the cost of standard delivery.
Customers are allowed to handle the item in the same way they would in a shop. For example, they can try it on or take it out of the box to see what it looks like.
When you do not have to offer a refund
There are certain items where you only have to offer a refund if they are faulty, such as:

  • personalised or custom-made items, for example curtains
  • perishable items, for example frozen food or flowers
  • newspapers and magazines
  • unwrapped CDs, DVDs and computer software
  • sealed items that for health or hygiene reasons cannot be returned once they have been opened, for example underwear

wow. That's bad.

NC543210 · 14/10/2026 12:26

They offered me 5% gesture of goodwill
So I said I'd like to return the calender and they've basically said no you can't.

LagoLady · 14/10/2026 12:28

Wow @NC543210 I hope you won’t let this go

Mondaymorningmayhem · 14/10/2026 12:31

@RipplePlease6 you could always have a daily ‘peep’ into the calendar; join in the thread and then shut the product back into its drawer until Christmas Day 🤣. I honestly feel that the opening threads are almost (but not quite) as exciting as the initial reveals / choosing which calendars (notice the plural there 🤣) to buy

That's absolutely shocking. Definitely speak to your bank. Hopefully you might end up with a refund and the remainder of the FAC

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 14/10/2026 12:34

Gosh @NC543210 please don't let this go. That's appalling. They continue to sink to new lows don't they?
@Advententhusiast Safe travels, hope you don't get stopped!

JoRaRaRa · 14/10/2026 12:39

@NC543210 how have they worked out that gogw amount? Seems strange! Like they've just plucked 5% out of thin air. When the medik8 was missing from my cult beauty bac, their pitiful gogw amount was calculated on the amount spend / the amount of products.

ClutteredPalace · 14/10/2026 12:46

@NC543210 that's an appalling response! I hope you have better luck with your bank. Why have so many companies got such terrible customer service these days? I'm sure it never used to be this bad. For a company like Selfridges who deal with high end products, I'd expect them to have equally high end customer service. Liberty are starting to rise in my estimation again in comparison, at least they replaced my damaged item immediately despite the price sticker.

IDontHateRainbows · 14/10/2026 12:47

Selfridges CS is very random. I had a broken little bottle in the fragrance edit vol 2 (£55 for 6, again no boxes) and they did a full refund

What was the published value of those 2 products when they advertised the calendar? That should be what they pay you in compensation as a minimum.

My SNK order from Monday (with limitless next day delivery) hasn't arrived yet either - it wasn't the BAC, just some makeup and the GWP. The last time they did a GWP it didn't turn up for weeks and only after contacting them loads.

They've definitely gone downhill with all the delivery issues and now no free samples. Such a shame as they used to be my favourite but I won't be renewing my delivery pass either.

FOBIthefearobeingincluded · 14/10/2026 12:50

I’ve just called Selfridges to enquire about the possibility of store availability. I was told they had a supplier issue and didn’t arrive yesterday, they could be available in store today but couldn’t confirm if this was the case. If anyone was going to visit Oxford Street would be worth checking. If your there can you get me one too? 🤞🏼

user7172 · 14/10/2026 12:51

Haven’t read thread so apologies if you know this. On senfeudfes on Oxford st, apparently they made 4500 calendar, 500 only in stores. All sold, no more coming…

JoRaRaRa · 14/10/2026 12:51

I had issues with selfridges customer service last year. I ordered some stuff that they dispatched early, so I wasn't in when DPD left it on my neighbours doorstep. We were having issues with people following DPD vans last year and stealing stuff, so it wasn't there when I asked my neighbour to take it in. Selfridges disputed a refund for months and claimed that it must be still at my neighbour's house 🙄

SNK definitely have, I think they have been taken over + new leadership? My free gift was misisng iwth my jo malone AC and I've had to badger them a few times now to send it, can't get through to a human on the phone now and can't tell if it's a bot or real person replying to emails, probably the former.

And the free samples they used to send seem to have all but disappeared...

I have had an update now. It should be arriving by 6.15 pm today. Fingers crossed.

@Mondaymorningmayhem
I have F and M arriving on Friday. It’s meant to be a Christmas present but if there’s going to be an opening thread, I’d hate to miss out 🤣

This is my issue, I was hoping to get Selfridges fragrance for my Christmas present but ended up buying Fortnums when I couldn't get it. However, I'm really excited for the opening threads so I'm going to hand my HFAC over for Christmas instead.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 14/10/2026 12:58

@JoRaRaRa Did you get a suitable resolution in the end?

Donsyb · 14/10/2026 13:04

10% cashback with Quidco off the Molton Brown AC at the moment.

8% cashback on anything else.

Beautyfox · 14/10/2026 13:06

I’m appalled by Selfridges response. So much so I’m glad I didn’t get he FAC because I really couldn’t be bothered with that hassle. I try to buy from companies with exceptional CS such as Liberty, clarins, oh my cream and for me SNK.
although CB have always resolved my issues, I hear the horror stories and only buy cheaper kits/edits from them just in case.
I’ve never had issues with Sephora to test their CS however maybe that’s a good thing in itself.

HumBumBum · 14/10/2026 13:09

Why aren’t Selfridges replacing the broken bottles?! That is what I expect from this situation, with an apology. 5% refund is completely inappropriate, I don’t want a partial refund, I want the products I paid for that have arrived damaged (due to their inadequate packing)!! I’m fuming on your behalf (and glad I didn’t get through their ludicrous queueing system only to have to deal with these issues!)
