Moncler v Canada Goose

I’m looking to treat myself after a pay rise and buy a new winter coat.

Any views on the above from those who’ve owned either/both? x

I think you need to go and try them on and see which you prefer. My husband went for Moncler after trying lots of them on. It was just the one that he felt fitted him and the style he liked. Canada Goose was a slightly odd fit on him.

I’ve had 4 Canada goose coats. One winter one, one lightly padded one (spring/autumn wear) and 2 waterproof Parker’s.

i really like them, they’re very good quality.

i did try on a Moncler in selfridges and I thought they seemed more flimsy in comparison to Canada goose and they were a lot more expensive.

There’s been quite a lot of discussion about ethics re Canada Goose. Might be worth reading up on if animal cruelty is of any concern.

elperil · 09/10/2026 14:26

Canada Goose is the choice of criminal outerwear. Bit of a badge and a uniform. Avoid.

Are you sure you don't mean Moncler? That's more on a par with the likes of Stone Island in terms of how it is seen.

ItsStillWork · 09/10/2026 14:28

Now they’ve made the badges less obvious which I like.

you can still get the original white badge on some stuff, but on others it’s black.

the ethics of them was to do with the coyote fur trim on the coat which they no longer do.

however moncler use real fur on their coats so they’re both the same in that sense to me.

ElizaSchuyler · 09/10/2026 14:31

Moncler stopped using real fur a few years ago.

Both actually, I wouldn't be seen in either, for the above reason and the ethical considerations.

Snoken · 09/10/2026 14:36

Neither. Look at Mackage instead. They are marginally better from an ethical point of view I believe.

Edited to add, now that I have read up on it some more, just go with neither. Although, I don't think Mackage has the same roadman connotation that the other two has.

Ladyymuck · 09/10/2026 14:38

I’ve got a mix of both, some are ancient and still going strong and looking as new. I would go and try them both on and see what your preference is.

The feathers used for the filling are also an ethical concern. There's no need to harm animals for our clothes.

But lots of winter jackets have feathers in them, it’s not just exclusive to Canada goose. Same with feather pillows, duvets etc.

anything from an animal is cruel if you think about it…

leather couches, shoes and jackets
the dairy industry
primark, shein and tumu are cruel on humans etc.

JanuaryLove · 09/10/2026 15:07

I have and love both but it's really too warm here for them well in the southeast it is 😂 so mine stay and get looked at a lot

I can’t comment but in terms of construction and quality these may help you decide
Canada Goose

Yes, but Canada Goose have been known to pluck the feathers off birds that are still alive. The slightly more ethical ones use feathers off birds that have already been killed to be sold as food. I think this is what Mackage does.

AlphabetBird · 09/10/2026 15:30

They are both a bit neighbourhood coke dealer.

Probably nice and warm though, as dealing seems to be mostly an outside game.

Exactly, particularly the shiny Montclers 😊 Edit... Monclers.

AmIReallyTheGrownup · 09/10/2026 17:05

Neither, Woolrich

fancytoes · 09/10/2026 17:50

Sadly both may have once been high end but as with most high end labels, they have been adopted by… by… a certain type of person. Anyway, they have gone the way of the Burberry check.

The North Face are still clinging on in in there is you look at the arctic parka?

Chocoholic27 · 09/10/2026 23:23

Moncler and Canada Goose are well out of my price range atm - they look great. I am looking at Rab or Marmot (both have down for the proper warmth I'm looking for, but for a cheaper budget).
