Dress for work event

Can anyone please help me with a suggested dress for a work event- think casino type christmas party. I’m 50, size 12/14 wide hips and carry weight on my stomach and would just like to look nice! Was thinking of long dress in block colour but not really sure. Probably need shoes too! I guess budget up to £80 if it’s something lovely and hopefully I could wear again! Thank you to anyone that can help with someone clueless. Have dark hair, feel like I suit strong jewel colours.
