Independent make up advice / recommendations?

I’d like to go somewhere and have my make up done by someone who is not tied to any particular brand. Does this exist anywhere? I’m in my 40s now and whilst I’ve never worn much make up I feel like my current stuff is not great on my skin anymore and I want a better ‘look’ for work.

So I’ve done more searching online and John Lewis seems like a good option but Sephora also came up / has anyone used either? Looks like Selfridges and Liberty also do it but I’m imagining the brands there trend more ‘high end’ and whilst I don’t mind paying extra for something that really works on me, I don’t necessarily want every product to cost the earth.
