Please could someone help with my zip issue

I’m going to my sons graduation in November.
I will be staying in a hotel by myself for two nights. I’ve sorted my outfit and today decided to try my dress on and make sure it fits.
it zips up at the back and that’s the problem. I simply cannot manage to zip it up by myself. Dh came and helped and the dress is perfect. But what to do when I’m getting ready at the hotel with no one to help.
Is there a gadget I could buy to kind of hook onto the zip?. Maybe I could ask a kind staff member to help me out, but that would be so embarrassing.
I really don’t want to change my outfit plan but I’m terrified I won’t be able to zip myself up on the day.
Any advice?

Attach a zip tie to the zip so you can pull it up, then snip it off with scissors.
I'm sure theres other solutions too don't worry!!

Attach a long loop to the zip.
Zipper Helper for Dresses
Zip Pullers & Grips - Comfort & Dressing

  • others probably available

Try it out before the day

Tie a long ribbon to the puller.
Put the dress on
Bend over like a turtle
Hold the other end of the ribbon
Pull up the zip, while still leaning over
Ta dah!

It works for wetsuits anyway.

You just need a small safety pin and a piece of ribbon. Knot the ribbon onto the non opening side of the safety pin, then put the pin through the loop of the zipper pull.

OneNewEagle · 07/10/2026 20:50

A piece of ribbon or thread and a safety pin. Once zipped off remove.

Zipped up not off 🤣

How will you get out of it at the end of the night too?

I’ve no idea, I may need to sleep in it. 😀
Thanks for all the good ideas. I’m going to give them a go tomorrow.

presumably the same way - pop a bit of string / ribbon in the zip when it’s done up at the top (assuming it’s high enough to reach) then pull it down?

Would be very hard to do once in it, especially if the zip is a small one...
Unless you left the string in and tucked it in the dress?

get a long thin ribbon or string and tie a big lumpy knot in one end.
then use that to do it up, (the knot stops it going through).
and just pull it out again when done.
if you can reach the top then to undo it just thread the ribbon back through and pull down.

Re getting your dress off again, I have been known to ask the receptionist or a female guest to just unzip the top of my dress on my way back into a hotel, though usually getting it off is easier anyway.
