I'm currently using Astral, have done for years but as I'm getting older my skin is more dry, I do drink water not as much as I should. I use a few products from the ordinary, retinoid, a red face peel thing once a week, and hyaluronic acid.

I hate my face feeling dry or tight I hate wearing foundation I only use a cc cream mixed with moisturizer and I end up taking it off halfway through day. I apply the astral a few times a day when my face feels dry again but I'm thinking maybe the moisturiser isn't doing enough to keep my skin hydrated, that's why I'm having to reapply, I just love the greasy texture of it I hate moisturizers that just absorb straight away and leave face feeling matte. Or maybe I need a hydrating mist to apply through the day... I'm not sure, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nivea Soft. Tried all the fancy ones and they left me with gritty, dull skin with a slight sheen on it. Went back to Nivea Soft and I swear my fine lines disappeared again!

cheapskatemum · 06/10/2026 20:08

I use Nivea Q10.

Witchhunted · 06/10/2026 20:14

I swear by Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, lovely stuff

savvy7 · 06/10/2026 20:18

Illyoon ceramide cream is the best for sensitive dry skin. Keeps dry skin moisturised all day.

are you using a layer of hyaluronic acid under the moisturiser/bb cream? Made a massive difference for me.

Best moisturiser I’ve found is the Curel Intensive, might be worth a try.

Another vote for Nivea Soft here. I can’t say it’s done anything for fine lines, but it keeps my skin soft all day.

Thank you. I tried this one recently as I used to use it some years back but feel like the formula has changed? It felt really tacky and wierd

You could try Nivea blue pot if you like the richness of Astral? I use it daily under foundation and love it, I really credit it with my relatively few wrinkly bits.

Why do you take off your makeup halfway through the day? The more you mess with your skin the grumpier it will get ime.

What other skincare do you use? I use a cleansing oil to remove makeup followed by Cetaphil which is a super gentle cleanser, then Nivea. La Roche Posay SPF50 on sunny days on top of a lesser amount of Nivea and before makeup.

I swear by M&S Pure Night Cream. Very affordable and just the right texture for dry skin. I wear it day and night

Agree. Been using it for years. John Lewis often have 20% discount.

I’m 70 and have tried most brands in a wide range of budgets, the one my skin definitely prefers is Lacura Rejuvelate from Aldi.

It just feels a bit tight, i just like my skin to constantly look dewy and feel nourishe, that's why I swapped to a cc cream as I couldn't stand foundation

I use weleda skin food cleaner at night for makeup removal, then nyacinimide with retinoid drops all from ordinary. The AHA BHA I only use once a week. I stopped using face scrubs as I was told they're not good for your skin... I was using a nip fab one for a long time which I was enjoying using but stopped when I heard negative things about using them.

Kiehls has been my favourite for a few years now!

Strong hyaluronic acid (I use aroma zone) on damp skin, then straight away lock it in with moisturiser - I use either byoma gel or coats water creme but if my skin is feeling particularly dry/tight I'll use a cicaplast overnight and that makes it feel really soft and plump. Avene is good but I actually rate the Mixa one and it's cheaper too!

I used to swear by this but trying their superfood range and actually prefer it/getting better results and cheaper z

Another one who loves Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, usually get it from QVC or other places when there are great offers on.

LadyLapsang · 06/10/2026 22:25

Liz Earle Advanced Serum-in- Moisturiser is very good. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baumé if your skin reacts or gets very dry.

NiceUnusualDifferent · 08/10/2026 16:51

Expensive but tatcha dewy skin cream is excellent. I also like the inkey list ceramide cream

Arran2024 · 08/10/2026 17:14

I recently started using froya, day and night versions, and I love it. It is more like a balm than a cream. It is only available on line, I think. It is nothing like cream - I used to use L'Occitane Immortelle, which was the only cream I ever rated. I still use it at the gym as I have some left but now I prefer froya. I also have some lovely Korean creams from PureSeoul

feelingflushed · 08/10/2026 18:01

I’ve used a million different moisturisers but now I use CeraVe in the big blue and white tub and I will never use anything else. It’s so nice to use and has improved my skin on my face and body. And it’s not expensive!

I agree. A small amount of oil under or over the astral cream may help. Or you could try a heavy duty emollient cream such as E45 cream as a moisturizer instead.
