Cheaper alternative to highlights

I can't afford to keep highlighting my hair anymore - £150 for a half head and a cut every 3 months is money I can't justify at the moment. I've been highlighting my hair since I was 18 so never tried any alternatives and would be great to know what others do.

Does all over colour work out cheaper? I've got a lot of greys (and I'm in my 30s so not ready to embrace them) so balayage not an option.

Why isn’t balyage an option? You could go darker on your roots and leave your ends lighter to get the balayge look then just get your roots done which is alot cheaper and low maintenance

Yes, balayage is a lot cheaper but only if you don’t have too many greys. Otherwise you have to do the roots in a semi permanent and it gets pricey and more frequent.

Global colour does tend to be cheaper as the technique is different and quicker however not cheaper by much at all and also doesn't grow out well in comparison to highlights. But really its stylist and salon dependent so maybe check your salons website for pricing.

Could you buy the stuff yourself and use a tipping cap/maybe get someone else to do it for you whos good with home hair dying? Defo not the best option thoughbtw.

Unfortunately that cost is pretty normal these days i would say. I stopped highlighting due to cost years ago and embraced my natural colour instead but appreciate different scenario for you if its to conceal greys.

Just go one colour.
