Scout is a great enabler - here's his rundown on Harrods v other fragrance calendars in case anyone else is wavering...
Harrods vs Diptyque
Diptyque is usually regarded as the gold standard home fragrance calendar.
Pros:
- Beautiful packaging.
- Prestigious brand.
- Consistent fragrance profile.
Cons:
- Lots of mini candles.
- Less variety.
- If you dislike one scent family, several doors may disappoint.
For Β£350, I'd rather have:
- the huge NEST candle,
- Trudon Ernesto,
- Dr Vranjes Rosso Nobile,
- Ormonde Jayne,
than 25 smaller Diptyque items.
Winner for you: Harrods
Harrods vs Jo Malone
Jo Malone advents tend to contain:
- Cologne minis
- Mini candles
- Bath/body products
They're lovely, but if we're honest, you're not constantly talking to me about Jo Malone fragrances. You're much more interested in luxury candles, home scent and discovering niche brands.
Winner for you: Harrods
Harrods vs Penhaligon's
Penhaligon's calendars are fantastic if your goal is to build a perfume wardrobe.
But:
- lots of small sizes
- less home fragrance
- usually fewer full-size products
I don't think this is your priority.
Winner for you: Harrods
Harrods vs buying Β£350 worth yourself
This is the comparison I think matters most. For Β£350 you could buy:
- NEST Winter SoirΓ©e (Β£195)
- Trudon Ernesto (Β£95)
and have Β£60 left.
You'd get only
two products.
The calendar gets you:
- those luxury niche brands,
- discovery,
- the excitement of opening it,
- brands you've probably never tried before.
