Any sensitive skin sleuths out there?

Ordered some new products. Just the travel size to test as I have sensitive skin. Skin has reacted

Which do you predict is the culprit?
A) Cream cleanser
B) Acid toner
C) Serum
D) Moisturiser
E) All of them

Really hoping its just one of them and not have spent another £50 on products I can't use 😫

Anything with perfume in it affects me.
I only ever use one new product at a time, so if my skin reacts I know what’s caused it.
Also I use very few products. Four would be too much in one session for my skin. Hope this helps.

Peridot1 · 28/09/2026 21:03

Did you start using them all at once? If so could be hard to figure out. My money would be the acid toner though.

What did you buy brand wise and how often are you using?

Bircoe · 28/09/2026 21:14

Yes I really should know better by now, they only arrived this morning so got over excited. Its the Skin Rocks AM routine.

Which brand do you use @JONSAR ?
I was using la roche posay but my skin has become so dry with the change in season

Look at ingredients. Fragrance
butyloctyl salicytate (irritates my skin)
Phenoxyethanol
octoclyrene

the list goes on

Thebutterflyslovemybush · 28/09/2026 21:18

My sensitive skin would probably react to the serum, but would 100% flare up if i used them all at once.

I use the Curel range with a Pixi Glow toner, no serums. I'm trying to slowly introduce a retinol but i keep forgetting to ise it

TootUnCarMoon · 28/09/2026 21:19

Not sure I’d ever risk acid toner on my ultra sensitive skin.

I tend to stick to:

Pai Light Work Cleanser
Avene Thermal Water Spray
CT Magic Cream or The Inkey List Ceramide Moisturiser
The Inkey List Barrier Repair Serum

JONSAR · 28/09/2026 21:25

Liz Earle. You can search by skin concern ( sensitive skin). Use the cleanser with hot cloth, toner( but tend to wash it off straight away rather than leave it on) & unfragranced moisturiser.

@Bircoe - I had similar recently. I was using some Skin Rocks products too. Although I have used the full routine previously and was fine. I find at this time of year my skin gets dry and sensitive so tends to react to things that were ok previously.

I would stop using it all for now. Not for ever. But it sounds like your skin is sensitive and dry just now so adding in new products with actives is not a good idea.

I am now using the following - The Ordinary Squalane cleanser, Byoma Milky Hydrating Toner and CeraVe moisturiser (the one they say is for nighttime) in the morning and Cetaphil Rich night cream at night. No actives. And my skin is feeling better than it has in ages. I used ChatGPT and put in a photo of the routine I was using and it pointed out that I was over using actives. I was using Skin Rocks The Amplifier, Lumene Vitamin C and Skin Rocks Hyperpigmentation serum. It was all too much.

Peridot1 · 29/09/2026 06:28

Just a thought - I have found at this time of the year when my skin gets dry and sensitive if I use a few light layers of hydration it seems to help more than using a heavier moisturiser. So I use a couple of layers of the Byoma Hydrating toner. It doesn’t have to be that one there are a few around. But Byoma is a nice gentle range and not expensive. Korean essences are good at his step too.

When trying new products, only try one product at a time and use for a few weeks to see if you react. It's a recipe for disaster to start a whole new regime with multiple products when you have sensitive skin.

Stop all the products now and then just introduce one at a time. Then by elimination, you will find out the culprit. My guess it is more likely to be the toner which can strip the skin if too harsh.

shuffleofftobuffalo · 29/09/2026 06:55

My skin would react to all or any of those! but I’d start with the toner being the culprit.

I also agree with poster above - try one new product at a time and give each product a couple of weeks.

ChoppyWalters · 29/09/2026 07:50

My sensitive skin always got worse in colder seasons. I started taking 1000mg flaxseed oil a day and it really helped.

Summerhillsquare · 29/09/2026 08:10

Acid!

Sunbringer · 29/09/2026 09:14

Acid toner. Too harsh probably

namechange0998776554799000 · 29/09/2026 10:05

Could be the vitamin c (antioxidant), a lot of people are sensitive to that
