Petite natural fibre dress for everyday Winter wear

First time post in S and B! I was diagnosed ND fairly recently. Realised all my life that clothes had been a challenge both in terms of sensory discomfort and I find decision making about what to wear quite overwhelming at times. I have also had a number of operations in the stomach/bowel area which have made trousers even more uncomfortable. This summer I bought 3 of the same dress from Uniqlo in 3 different plain colours and it’s been a revelation (though material was not natural fibres so still some sensory stuff). Hopefully have attached a pic of this dress to this post. Had a lot of compliments on them and they made getting ready for work in particular so much easier.

I am looking to do similar for Autumn/Winter and wondered if anyone had any suggestions? I would like a sleeve (at least elbow), minimal fuss, long enough to wear a boot and not show a huge amount of skin (this is for warmth-so I don’t need to wear tights which I detest). Budget 100 per dress or maybe a little more. Am size 12 petite and have meno/post op tummy so something that flatters that would help. Dress

Any good? I find viscose as comfortable as cotton, though I know not everyone agrees.

Thankyou! This is a bit of a bargain but yes I struggle with Viscose unfortunately and hoping to avoid if I can.

@TemporarilyCantDoMyself i really like this, particularly the range of colours-there is the potential for one for every day of the week which I could quite easily go for. Wondering how the one size chest and waist will sit as am quite small on top but definitely a contender.

Oh good, if you like that have a look at their other dresses too, there are quite a few that could work. This one for instance.
I've not bought from them but there are S&B posters who have and I'm pretty sure I've only seen good stuff about them.

Linette Linen Dress Pink

Cotton and linen won’t be very warm though, especially with no tights.

Maybe a cotton needlecord?

I’ll have a mooch around the site-never heard from them before. I like the yellow in this-really like a one block colour dress that’s not black.

Thanks, will do some searching of that in particular. Work office is quite warm so one option if they are on the cool side is just to wear them to work and have a warm coat to hand.

Have you looked at Seasalt, OP? If you are fine with pattern, not just plain, then it has quite a few in petite, made from organic cotton jersey or needle cord.

Those Seasalt ones are really nice. In previous years I’ve bought Part Two zipped cord dresses (in a couple of colours) they’re labelled mini but at 5’2” they are knee length on me. John Lewis has a few more options

I’m not sure how tall you are but I live in tunics as dresses from Seasalt and the like but am only 5’

AllezAllezPronto · 28/09/2026 12:58

I'd look at brands who do petite ranges, depending on your budget.
That's going to be faster than posters singling out a dress.

Hobbs
Boden
Whistles
Seasalt
White Stuff
Nobodys Child
M&S

Short cut- Go to J Lewis website and click on Women/ dresses and then Brands.

I’m small , 5’2” and between size 10 and 12 .
I really dislike anything that might squash my tummy ( digestive issues) and I prefer natural fibres too .
There are a lot of suitable dresses in Seasalt petite .
I also have Simone dresses from Fatface but they’d need tights or soft leggings under for winter.
Also Lily & Me have some heavier cotton needlecord dresses and brushed cotton dresses/ tunics

cromwell44 · 28/09/2026 20:31

I have a Poetry corduroy dress that falls below the knee and I’m 5’3”. It’s well cut and very comfortable. It’s very similar to this one Here . As PPs have said, Lots of Seasalt dresses are natural fibres and available in petite fit. and many dresses are in natural fibres.

Same height as you and I always chose natural fibres. I’ve bought this in two colours. Very comfortable. The studs, although a pain to do up, prevent any gaping which is always a plus for the office! Nobody’s Child Finchley dress 20% off at the moment too

The thing about the “one size” Made in Italy stuff is that it’s huge! I really want to like it, but even as a tallish (5’8”) size 16 it’s really a bit too big.
