I bought this shirt in a vintage store this week and I've tried everything I can think of to identify the brand, but to no avail. From the care label, I suspect it may be a Dutch brand. The material is synthetic, but the buttons are mother of pearl. The fabric is very lightweight, but heavily textured and is really springy/stretchy with a metallic sheen to it (a bit like beaten copper).

If any of you keen eyed fashion experts could help me ID the brand/maker, I would be really grateful.

I work in vintage clothing but that looks modern I’m afraid. The ‘M’ label looks like it comes from a cheap brand like shein. Also it’s polyester I believe? Can’t imagine polyester having real mother of pearl buttons as they’re normally on luxurious items or higher end.
there’s hundreds of labels out there so it’ll be hard to say what the actual brand is. I know that fabric was in fashion a few years ago, so again I think it’s a cheapo modern brand from shein.

It’s hard as it just has the m for medium and the care label in English and Dutch/flemish, so likely something sold for Benelux and uk, primark does that a lot, it looks to be early 2000s,

i also don’t think it will be synthetic with real mother of pearl, I’m sorry.

is there no other label on it?

ilovecardigans · 25/09/2026 20:40

Thank you so much @Annie890 and @Venusunbroken for taking the time to reply.

Yes, unfortunately it is 100% polyester - not a fabric I'd normally ever buy, but I fell in love with the colour and texture of the material. That did make me wonder about the mother of pearl buttons, but I suppose whoever had it before me (or the shop) could have swapped the original buttons out to make it look more high end. More fool me! 😳

There are no other labels on the garment, but the shop's price label said that it was 'Y2K'. Which means absolutely nothing to me! It does look lovely on though, so I will enjoy it before it inevitably disintegrates.

Ah well, at least I managed one decent purchase - a gorgeous Swiss made silver leather belt from Themata, so my shopping trip wasn't a complete fail.

Y2K =early 2000s era. Makes sense for a vintage shop to have that label.

iwonderwhyitearmyself · 25/09/2026 22:49

Looks to be Primark.

It’s not vintage, it’s distinctly modern.

Y2K - year 2000

we all thought the technological world as we knew it would come to an end on 01/01/2000.

Venusunbroken · 26/09/2026 08:38

Yes y2k just means year 2000,

I am not sure it matters where it’s from, if you like it , that’s all that matters,

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/09/2026 09:31

I suspect the buttons are original, since there is a spare sewn into the seam by the care label.

managingexpectations · 26/09/2026 11:04

I google lensed your images and something the same/very similar popped up on a site called Ian Drummond vintage.
descriptions the same although the buttons appear to match the fabric more.
brands is listed as Simon Chang. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Simon Chang is Canadian, didn’t do labels in English and Flemish and had his name on the label of the clothing with a little red shape, plus the shirt is different, you can see in the collar etc.

That's the ugliest shirt I've ever seen!

Indeed so. I was just curious, that's all.

It's deffo y2k and deffo a.mass production piece !.
Purely the M is not how designers label their garments
Also the material

SevenYellowHammers · 26/09/2026 17:27

Alfie Moon?

Venusunbroken · 26/09/2026 17:56

I suspect it was mass manufacture in China, where no label but the legally required care one was put on, they were often produced for market stall or discount wholesalers hence the label blank,

Scrolling past I thought it was a chocolate frosted cake
