Navy Blazer issues

I have a really lovely, well cut classic navy blazer which I would like to wear for work (profession) but I don't know what to wear with it. This is a deceptively easy issue but I'm having problems.

I don't want to go back to the 90s and have a trouser suit look with matching navy trousers. Or I could as long as they were cut in a cool way maybe? And what shoes. And what top underneath..I thought a navy tshirt maybe. I like a fairly minimalist look I suppose. Thank you anyone who has any ideas.

What shape is the jacket? I like a matching suit actually but it’s very hard to match navy I think so I’d be inclined to wear with something else. What do you like to wear?
When I hear classic I think more slim cut hip length? I have a beautiful Max Mara blazer I picked up on Vinted which is cut like that, in a charcoal grey. I wear it usually with black wide leg trousers and simple black or white t shirt, charcoal blazer, black loafers. I have a navy more boxy blazer that I wear with slimmer jeans, or open over barrel trousers with a belt and a slimmer t shirt, with a point/square toe shoe.

I would wear with cream or tan trousers, an orange top and tan loafers.

I have successfully matched very dark navy, almost midnight blue, with light grey the colour of a cloudy sky. With chunky silver or gunmetal grey accessories.
If this is a truly fitted blazer, nipped in at the waist with the 90s vibe, I think wide flowy trousers with flat shoes (some sort of soft leather or suede loafers in black would be fine) would look nice and in the more relaxed way of the current fashion. To further dilute the formality of the blazer, I’d go with a very slouchy oversized bag in any colour, even a bright completely unrelated colour, like a brick orange.

Tartan or patterned trousers with some navy, but maybe not the dominate colour, would avoid too much colour match problems, particularly with a white shirt/t shirt.

Or go European and pair with good jeans.

or over a dress

Its a slim cut Marella one which sounds similar to your Max Mara one. I like the sound of your suggestions which sounds similar to my style. I need to look into shoes...

I do love a jacket over a dress but I have to really be in the mood for tights as it's winter and I always end up with trousers through sheer laziness. I might see if I have a suitable dress though.

Jeans unfortunately I wouldn't wear to see clients which is annoying as I love my wide jeans.

That also sounds very cool. Like the sound of the wide trousers and bag.

Do we think wide trousers are still going to be current for winter? I am really hoping so.

I think so, yes, wider styles of trousers are here to stay for a while yet.
Maybe moving away from palazzo style and more towards unstructured, less fitted, a bit slouchy and shapeless on the thighs area.
A few interesting styles here

I think wider trousers are a classic anyway. I’ve been stocking up in case the skinny jeans era returns. I’ve been working on shoes lately. I feel I could do with some dressier/more interesting flats. I’ve got a pretty short torso so the very oversized blazers that have been in don’t really suit me so I still like a more classic one.

I’ve just bought a Weekend Max Mara navy jacket and trousers that are a suit - definitely not 90s! There are quite a few around at the moment. The trousers are not wide - mire straight but they suit me.

With a blazer, I like jeans and of course a blue white striped t shirt! Or a white t shirt or shirt. Hounds tooth trousers are great and I like camel or beige trousers and a silk top. I also think the modern chocolate colours go well with navy. Also baby grey/blue.
