Home IPL or salon laser for coarse chin and neck hair?

I have a problem with coarse dark hair on my chin and directly underneath my chin on a small portion of my neck area. It’s just getting worse as I age, and the hairs are also often getting ingrown. I’ve come to the point to needing to do something about it,
I already have a home IPL system but would it be better to get this lasered at a salon?

Have you tried your home kit? I would try that first.

I did read that if the hair is hormonal laser won't work but not sure how true that is.

The other option would be electrolysis

I’ve chosen electrolysis because of the risk of hyperpigmentation on the face from laser. I’ve lasered the rest of me, but worried about melisma. Electrolysis is a lot slower and more painful but does seem to be working.

I have a Philips IPL which I bought specifically for chin hairs, have also been for laser treatment sessions in the past. After a good couple of years where menopause has exacerbated the problem,I have accepted defeat and am now starting electrolysis again. I have only been for one session so far but the lady said that some of my follicles were really deep - had some moles removed in the past - which is why ipl wasn’t working.

I mean you have the ipl so you might as well give it a go. I found it quite hard to find someone doing electrolysis as laser much more fashionable these days.

@rookiemere that is interesting about deep follicles. I am having laser top up as, after 20 years of so, I’m no longer as smooth.
My knees and things never responded as well and I wonder if they just have deep follicles. My DD is soon going to be old enough for laser- she has been counting down until she is 18- so it’s useful to know if this might be a consideration. Thanks for mentioning.

Phillips IPL worked well on my legs (which I didn't really care about anyway) but has not made a dent on my moustache or chin hairs even though they're dark. Just exploring electrolysis as an alternative. I'm so sick of plucking!
