I want to buy one but there’s so many on the market now. Looking for recommendations 😀

Me too! The Dyson is fantastic, I use a friends sometimes, but surely there’s a cheaper option! Following hoping to hear from someone who’s tried a few!

Shark. Absolutely brilliant and a game changer for me. I have barely used a hairdryer since I bought it two years ago. Shower at night and leave hair to air dry - 5 minutes in the morning running the Shark through my hair, smoothing the back and then putting it underneath my hair at the front and pulling it forwards and I look like I've had a bouncy blow dry.

Yes I went to the hairdressers yesterday and she gave me an amazing blow dry (traditional with hairdryer and brush) but I’d never be able to do it myself so I was thinking a hot brush would be better.

Yes I really don’t want to spend over £300 if there’s a cheaper one just as good 😬

My Shark Multiflex I love it - I procrastinated for about 2 years because of the price and then got vouchers from work at Christmas, it turned my frizzy hair into smooth and sleek and now I've been playing with the diffuser I have lovely waves - again no frizz.

What are you trying to achieve? I have the dyson air wrap and i wouldn't personally recommend it talkes ages and i dont think the price tag is justifiable! Mine has recently broken so i have bought the cloud 9 airshot hairdryer which comes with volumisers and I love it for a curly blow dry, far cheaper and far superior IMO. Havent tried the shark

Sundaynightterrors · 13/09/2026 20:26

@hourspassed which Shark product do you have?

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 13/09/2026 20:48

Dyson have just released a new brush/dryer, called AirSmooth. I ordered it and have tried it out once so far, but it has made my thick hair go enormously puffy. I am going to try again with more products and a few more attempts to see if that helps, otherwise I will have to return it (Dyson allows 35 day returns). A lot of the reviews are really good though and people seem to like it.
I tried Shark Silkipro earlier, and I liked the finish better (probably because it has ceramic plates), but the plates caught the edges of my hair and I could feel it tearing/tangling, so not going with that one either. Was thinking of trying the Shark Glossi, as QVC also has that (also allow you to return). I think that's the replacement for the smoothstyle mentioned above.
I have also tried GHD duet blow dry, with ceramic heated bristles, but had a similar problem to Dyson smooth, just seems to make my hair puffy. The Dyson Airstraight is good, I have a secondhand one of those and like it for the smoothness, but not for the ends as my thick hair just ends up hanging with severe/blunt ends and no bounce, and I can't seem to put any curl back in them once it's been straightened. I had high hopes for the airsmooth, and you might like it as a lot of people seem to, unless you have very frizz-prone hair like me.

Maybe it's my technique or products - I use colorwow dreamcoat, and then have tried a sort of leave in conditioner spray, or the ghd sleektalker wet-to-dry oil. but just end up with thick slightly wild hair, not smooth or glossy at all, but huge.

Hoping to achieve a blow dry with volume and curl and the ends of my hair. It always look so flat. And I’m rubbish with a separate hairbrush. Also to do some curls too.

I spent a lot of money on a shark flex and I’m not convinced they’re worth it. The curls and waves take a good 20 mins to do properly after drying, then drop out pretty quickly. It’s ok to use as a hot brush but you could buy a hot brush far cheaper.
I tend to use mine for special occasions when I’ve got time on my hands personally I prefer a decent dryer, large barrelled brush and some GHDs

Tymo have good reviews and are very cheap. I have their sucky in curler and its fab, tempted by the brush thing too.

MulledWineisMine · 14/09/2026 16:38

I have an Airwrap, I don’t get as good a bouncy blow dry with it than I do with my Revlon One Step or Babyliss Big hair although it doesn’t fry the ends so much.
My straight, lank hair needs oomph.
Keen to try the Dyson Airsmooth now, hoping it might be the Holy Grail

LikeGoldToAiryThinness · 14/09/2026 16:57

You might be lucky with the Dyson, if your hair works with the Revlon or Babyliss - mine didn't really work well with those either. I'm going to persist with the Dyson for a bit longer before returning it, though, as I feel like it should work better than it has so far! Just makes my hair so big and puffy - but then, it has been pretty humid here too. I"m going to try some smoothing products as well as the DreamCoat, maybe instead of the Sleek Talker oil next time.

There’s so many, and it’s hard to know what I’ll get on with. It’s a costly mistake if it’s not great….
