Lands End have lots of this type of coat, and they have 25% off at the moment.

Second vote for Lands End - look at their Expedition Parka. Wait for a code, there's always some sort of promo on, don't buy full price. Also, they pop up on ebay if you don't mind 2nd hand.

Uniqlo seamless down is great.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 12/09/2026 09:20

I know it's the obvious answer but the Uniqlo down coat is pretty perfect in all ways.

TheKestralNextDoor · 12/09/2026 09:34

Thanks - I did think of Uniqlo - but have not bought from them before - so unsure as to the quality - I want an investment piece - so TY all

Uniqlo do not seem to have the length I want - at least knee length - I hate the cold 😣

They will have them soon. They bring the long ones out in autumn. They're very good quality but obviously still quite reasonably priced so not fancy.

Moncler or Canda Goose if you are wanting an investment piece?

The Uniqlo seamless down coat will come out soon. V light, warm and good enough quality for me. I live in London though. May not work for Scotland.

Im in the far North and it's good.

Lots of coats have gone veggie ! Feathers snd down from birds are more difficult to find! My favourite is the one from The White Company. Definitely better than Lands End but it depends what you mean by investment piece. M&S used to do well priced long ones but they’ve not for them yet. Holland Cooper has non down ones if you like their style.

My budget won't stretch to Moncler 😆 - but thanks

Mine neither...🤣. Although even if it did I might still stick with Uniqlo. No point wasting money!

Yes thats the thing they will start stocking again soon. Mine didn't have the fur thing though. I feel like Ive missed out now...🤣..

Ive got one in olive green and one in navy so they will have a bigger choice of colours soon too presumably.

Women's Seamless Down Long Coat | UNIQLO UK https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E487411-000/00?colorDisplayCode=57&sizeDisplayCode=003&sv1=affiliate&sv_campaign_id=863943&awc=6771_1789216191_bb149fb85feadf33aa2a56dbd29eddc6&utm_source=awin&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=863943

Here you go. Some colours already in stock. I like that Mpuntain Warehouse one too a lot although the neckline might not work for freezing days up north here. Maybe it can be tightened.

TheKestralNextDoor · 12/09/2026 18:38

thank you - Love that one too. You have all been a great help - I am new to mumsnet - was hesitant about posting this - you have all put a smile on my face today.

I also recommend the Uniqlo seamless down coat, I’m unfortunately permanently freezing and it’s the best coat I’ve ever owned. They have thought of everything when designing it and it is perfect. Can’t fault it.

GeorgeTheGiraffo · 12/09/2026 19:17

I read somewhere that if you are buying a down coat you should look for one with the individual pad chevron things pointing slightly downwards (towards the middle of the coat) rather than straight across because it is much more flattering. Every year I look for one of these coats but have only ever found designer v. expensive ones.

Anyone spotted one currently for sale with slanted rather than straight divisions?
