Moisturiser or foundation recommendations for mild rosacea

I have recently developed what I believe to be mild rosacea. Back in June i noticed that my nose and cheeks would go red after showering of washing. This is still happening, but the flushed look is now there all the time, although it is not as intense as it is when I've had a shower. I am able to hide it to some degree with my normal foundation but was wondering if there is a specific moisturiser and/or foundation that would help reduce the redness? Bear in mind I also have very sensitive skin so it would need to be hypoallergenic. Thank you 😊

There's a lot of trial and error. Which is annoying because spending £££ on products only for them not to suit you is annoying.

Have you been to the doctor? There's a number of topical treatments you can try first. Ivermectin has completely changed my life.

I use Cerave SPF and moisturiser and that doesn't irritate my rosacea. But to remove it I'd speak to your GP

I had the same problem as you and although I don't wear foundation, I have tried loads of different Roseacea moisturisers over the years. Now I just use Nivea with spf and this is fine on my skin. I also wear a silicone face mask in the shower which helps a lot. Also, It might be coincidence but I have changed my diet due to prediabetes and my skin is the best it has ever been.

I have had awful rosacea for years and I have tried everything from prescription creams to expensive rosacea formulated lotions and nothing really worked until I picked up a Beauty of Joseon SPF face cream, from super drug, to try before my holiday.

It is amazing, the redness has gone, the spots have gone and I had lumpy open pores that have completely vanished. I can't usually tolerate any moisturiser on my sensitive face and certainly not an SPF 50. It's like silk , you can't even feel it on your skin. Family members have started to comment on how much younger I look. I think it's stocked in boots too. I've bought the face wash, and the toner which are great, but I couldn't tolerate the dynasty cream.

Kalme chameleon is also a green based concealer that covers redness. It's specially formulated for rosacea.

The Erborian cc red correct is absolutely fantastic. I have rosacea and it really helps with redness. It comes out green but looks like normal foundation when blended in. It’s the one in the green tube! Azelaic acid is brilliant for rosacea, I tried a couple of over the counter ones and they helped a bit but I went to the GP who prescribed Skinoren 15% and it’s made a massive difference.

cetaphil do a lovely one for rosacea prone skin - it’s a night cream but I use it at night and in the day .

Great advice here. Yes I use Cerave too. My dermatologist (private) also recommended a non soap, non foaming face wash - I use the Cerave oat based cleanser. Same as you, Invermectin worked well, on that for six months, now I'm on azelaic acid (prescription type). Game changer. Foundation more tricky, I was already using Trinny London BBC tinted, and that works for me. Hope you find some good recommendations for foundation.

Thanks everyone; there's a few recommendations there for me to look into 🙂

I haven't been to my GP specifically about this as it doesn't seem particularly severe at the moment. I'm currently being investigated for joint and bone pains and wondered if it was a lupus malar rash, but this has been ruled out.

If the redness gets worse I will see my GP about it but I just wanted to see if there was anything I could use otc in the first instance.

This stuff worked for me:

I was going to ask about Rosalique as I keep seeing adverts for it on Facebook. It seems to have mixed reviews. Is it okay for sensitive skin?

Yes defo great for sensitive skin. Mine is very sensitive.

For those using ivermectin, is that okay for long term use? DS has what might be rosacea and the doctor gave him a sort of steroid crem which works, but it comes back and we dont' want to use it. I have ivermetic and so wondring if I should get him to try that instead of the steroid?

I found it too orange for my skin.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 10/09/2026 12:09

I would deal with the rosacea, before it gets worse and is impossible to hide! I used to have a large port-wine stain of it on one cheek that glowed through everything. I've had a few lasering sessions for it, but I'm currently on a mixture of long-term antibiotics for it (Doxycycline), and applying Skinoren (azaelic acid) and Soolantra (ivermectin) every day.

My skin is also ridiculously sensitive, so other than that, I was advised to wear SPF50 and used lanolin- and scent-free moisturiser.

I was referred by a GP and diagnosed with rosacea by a dermatologist, had blood tests and she prescribed three months of low dose antibiotics and daily ivermectin. Once cleared, she advised to stop the ivermectin and prescribed azaleic acid for use every night. HTH.
