How does Next return to store, work?

Because I ordered about 15 items. They came in 3 different outer bags and none of the inner plastic bags have any labels/QR codes.

Can I just put everything I am returning in 1 outer bag? And they will sort through it?

Do i need to put the return label inside? But it says for Evri use?

Am just confused to how they know whos it is if I don't take the outer bags and return labels, but it doesn't say I need that, just the inner plastic one? But they have zero labels/markers.

Did you make an account? When they scan the barcode to process the returns it brings up your account.

oodles50 · 05/09/2026 20:29

when you return it at the self serve return station, you scan the label on the garment itself. It will come up with your name and ask you to confirm, you then scan all the other items and it will ask you to place the items in a drawer/box. Or you can take them to the counter and they will do it for you.

Yello24 · 05/09/2026 20:30

Next use some magic that means the cardboard tags on each item are unique. I don’t understand it either!
If there’s a human they will just scan each tag and it will match to your account and they credit you. My store now has self service so you scan yourself and dump in a chute.

@PinguMoll you should have a confirmation email, they'll just scan the barcodes on each item, one bag is enough.

DramaAlpaca · 05/09/2026 20:30

It's really easy. They scan the label and it brings up your account on their screen. They ask your name to confirm it's you and you have your refund in a couple of days. Very straightforward.

JaneJeffer · 05/09/2026 20:31

And they don’t even ask you why you’re returning it plus they take the all plastic back.

PurpleFlower1983 · 05/09/2026 20:31

It’s really clever and the barcodes are unique to the item on the order. You just scan them in.

Treebaubles · 05/09/2026 20:35

Scan the label of each item you are returning. The label is linked to your account (through magic I believe 🪄)

Ilovesaints · 05/09/2026 20:36

Each item you purchased will have a bar code label individual to you,at some large stores they will have a machine ,show the first item and it will ask you to confirm the account name, confirm and put item in box.Keep going to end then confirm end and ask for printed receipt, you should also get a Whatsapp and email to confirm returns to your Next account. The refunds will show in a day or two.If there is no machine then go a till.

CanopyTheCanapes · 05/09/2026 20:38

It is a unique barcode to your account, the item gets a label that is only for you. Cost them a few million to implement but means they have better control over missing stock.

I have had an account with them so I assume that is what you mean by your items too. There is no return slip in the bags like they used to be.

HoldMyWine · 05/09/2026 20:56

Next returns are so easy. Just go to the counter if you’re not sure what to do.

TheLette · 05/09/2026 21:02

Make sure you get the delivery charge back if you are returning the whole lot and requested the return within 14 days of delivery. Next is legally obliged to refund them in that scenario but is one of the many retailers that "forgets" to refund.

PinguMoll · 05/09/2026 22:33

Sorry if Im being thick, but the actual label? The tag that is attached to the clothes?

Thats very cool!

The cardboard label that’s attached by a plastic tag directly to your jumper or jeans - where you’d look for the price

Imgoingoutforawhile · 05/09/2026 22:55

Yep the barcode label.

I’ve found Next one of the easiest places to return stuff and their system is really clever.

Not just their online stock either, I bought a top
in store and when I returned it I’d changed handbags and left the receipt in the other one, they just scanned the top and could tell how I’d paid for it and refunded no problem

DrunkenKoala · 05/09/2026 23:40

I did a return this week, within seconds I received a text stating that two items had been returned and then a few hours later I got an email with details of what was returned and then I think it took a couple of days for my statement to update.

I agree - I avoided Next for years but it’s really good now, lots of brands, quick delivery, easy returns, all free and the nearest store is quite convenient for me. I also like the clearance tab on the website, amazing bargains on there sometimes.

summater · 07/09/2026 08:13

I keep the individual plastic bag they arrive in, not the outer one with the address though as I have seen, maybe on the bag to keep it in the packaging for returns. You can either return at the self serve box or at the till. If the thing is faulty you are meant to go to the till

Yes, I bought a nice Sweaty Betty t shirt from the clearance tab recently

CointreauVersial · 08/09/2026 13:37

Next online returns are very impressive due to the unique label thing. They don't even need to see a receipt.

It tripped me up once. I bought something full price, then re-purchased it a couple of weeks later when I spotted it had gone into the sale.... by then, of course, I'd already worn the original purchase, but when I tried to return the sale purchase as if it was the full-price purchase... oops.... nope. The label told the truth, and I only got the sale price back. Pah!
