elevated business casual??

A job/assignment I am looking at involves working on a cruise ship for a single voyage. Sort of like one of the on-board experts. The details about the offer talk about cabin accommodation, food and so on and then say that we are expected to wear "elevated business casual" dress. WTF?

I would usually wear plain grey/black M&S trousers and a blouse/top, or a dress and loafers (heels on a ship is not a wise move), but not a jacket. What on earth is this dress code??

What does the job involve - what kind of activities and at what times of day? For example: giving a talk at lunchtime or mid afternoon is a very different dress code to a meet and greet at cocktail hour or Captain’s dinner.

More the former. Leading an activity, giving a talk, escorting a group on a tour. That sort of thing. Daytime.

That’s an odd dress code for those types of activities- you’re going to want something practical and comfortable for leading a group tour, presumably off the ship. I would ask for guidance to be honest. I would expect a blazer/jacket to feature in their expectations, considered accessories and fairly smart shoes, albeit not heels.

What would you wear to present at a conference in the UK? I’d imagine it’s more that sort of thing. Heels should be fine on a ship btw, though perhaps not if you are standing around talking for hours.

rather depends on the weather! One of the last trips I did there was quite a severe swell and I had to tell the audience that I was gripping the podium to stop swaying about, not because I'd been hitting the free wine at lunch.

I would generally not wear a jacket when presenting on land in the UK, I would wear a dress, or tailored trousers/skirt and a smart top. I will email my contact and ask. I am wondering if it would make more sense to a US audience.
