Any top tips on sandal/trainer maintenance?

I've reached the end of the summer with a pair of slightly stinky birkenstocks and another pair of rather grubby suede trainers. AI is not being helpful in terms of cleaning either, so I was interested in hearing from anyone who's had a successful result. Is it worth investing in baking soda which appears to feature in many remedies, for example??

I find Scholl shoe deodorising spray good against unpleasant smells. Wash the shoes first if possible, dry and then spray the inside/insole thoroughly and leave overnight before wearing again. Respray regularly.

In terms of washing, I use a biological washing solution - soak in warm water then rinse thoroughly in cold water.

If at all possible, dry the shoes naturally in fresh air.

Wash, dry and spray before storing the shoes over winter.

I used baking soda on my - non Birkenstock - sandals and it worked a treat. You don’t need a lot so “invest” is not really the right word. I had some in my baking cupboard.
