I have a cocktail party to go to and bought this. It's fairly inoffensive and I like the off shoulder design. Size 16. Curious to hear ideas about something to sort of lift it though from plain navy. I can't wear heels. I have baroque pearl and topaz drop earrings I am considering wearing. My hair is long and auburn and I will probably wear it in a chignon.

I'm not grat at anything style-related so would relish advice from kind posters!

Can you post a picture of your earrings? Maybe wearing them to give an idea of size etc?

DH actully had them made for me so they are quite distinctive if anyone reads this. But the pearls are around the size of my thumb and there are three topaz in graduating lengths (round) from the earlobe. The drop comes to the middle of my neck (hence the plan to wear my hair up).

I think I have decided on emerald green clutch and shoes. Then I'd probably not wear the topaz/pearl earrings and maybe another pearl drop earring I have which is actually a little less bling.

And good shout about Kate Middleton @Pineneedlesincarpet . I usually like her style so might hunt out some photos of hwe with similar colours/ style to what i am thinking of to get ideas.

Your earrings sound fabulous! And I think this would absolutely be an event for blingy jewellery ... They sound as if they'd be lovely with rust/coral/burnt orange colours, which would suit you?

Are you re-considering that dress? What outfits that Kate Middleton has worn are you thinking of? She is a different colouring, height & body shape to you, so you'll need to translate her look to suit you?

She dresses well - though it is within the very specific & restrictive parameters that apply to the royals, so it's too conservative for my taste. I hate nude shoes too!
