Itching after shaving legs

I know I could google this but I’m sure others have experienced this, so would love any advice or product recommendations.

I hate shaving my legs as they itch for 2-3 days after, mostly at night when I’m trying to sleep. I use an estrid razor, I don’t like waxing and am too fair to laser. It’s better if I exfoliate, and I use an E45 moisturiser, any other advice? TIA!

Are you dry shaving? My legs only itch if I don't wet them first before shaving.
After shaving you should always apply a light emollient as skin will be a bit dry, nothing too heavy though as I find it can make my skin too hot then.. Usually use aveeno.

This used to happen to me. I’ve since changed to the basic BIC men’s sensitive razors (orange pack) and haven’t had any issues since. I think the razors for women with multiple blades/gel strips caused me to have ingrown hairs and irritation. I just chuck them after 1 or 2 uses as a pack of 10 are relatively cheap.

Dermatologists recommend men's single blade razors (Bic) as multi blade cut too close and cause in-growing hairs. Avoid the pink tax products, buy the cheap men's disposables.

I use veet in a can and hair remover cream, I had too many cuts from razors so stopped shaving many years ago. With the can of veet my legs have been hair free for a number o fweeks. It is well worth using.

I scratch my legs off the for two days after shaving day. Never happens in armpits tho.

Mistyglade · 02/09/2026 18:03

Vigorously exfoliate them before you shower and make it a habit. The itches are dead skin.

supercalifragilistic123 · 02/09/2026 18:06

I was going to recommend estrid. I found I don't itch with them like the other razors. Are you changing the blade often enough? They don't last that long.

Two tips from me that might help:

  1. I have to shave my legs in the bath. Shower gel is fine (something moisturising and not too scented) on legs that have been properly immersed in the water to warm up for a bit; the shower won’t do.
  2. Never moisturise straight after shaving.

Sudocrem after shaving to stop itching.

Onelittledog · 02/09/2026 20:54

I apply hair conditioner before shaving and moisturise the day after. No itching at all

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 02/09/2026 21:18

I use E45 anti itch cream after shaving - no more itching!

NoelEdmondsHairGel · 02/09/2026 21:34

Apply some kind of oil to your legs before shaving - you can get specialist shave oils but others - eg almond oil, massage oil - will do the same job.

AlphabetBird · 02/09/2026 21:39

I get this. The only thing that really worked was swapping to explication and moisturising like crazy.

electric shavers were also ok because they don’t cut close, but the stubbly feeling is not so great.

LilacGrass · 02/09/2026 21:54

Lots of things for me to try, thank you!

La Roche Posay Serozinc is the solution! Spray after shaving and literally no itching or ingrown hairs. Sali Hughes recommended in The Guardian beauty column a few years ago and never had a problem since.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/09/2026 22:13

I get this if I shave normally.
If I use an electric shaver, I don't itch. Not does it happen if I use plenty of conditioner as shaving gel and moisturise after.

If I do find I'm itching I mix a small amount of lidocaine cream with body lotion and put that on my legs to quieten the reaction.

Rinse your legs in cold water after you shave them
