Self Potrait - any good?

I stumbled across the world of Self Portrait dresses at the weekend and have fallen completely in love with just about all of their midi dresses! My Vinted favourites is now filled with them in the hope I will have a reason to wear one soon, I can't afford brand new unfortunately. Just wondering if they are worth the price even second hand, are they good quality and shape? And do you have to be tall to carry their mid length dresses off, because even on the models the 'midi' dresses appear to be just about ankle length!? I'm 5ft 4 but love high heels.

Edit - tried to edit the typo in the title but it won't seem to let me!

Self Portrait dresses have a generally good reputation and many of them are extremely pretty. I would examine the fabric contents closely, of course. As to how they fit - they do seem to provide both garment and body measurements for each item - so if you browse with a tape measure you should be relatively sure of how something will work on you.

I’m shorter than you and looking at a dress like this one:

I would be confident that my alterations service could shorten either the hem or the bodice, if necessary. Obviously other things might be more problematic to alter.

Just to say that the sizing is harsh. I’m usually a size 8 but I’m a 10 in Self-Portrait.

The Princess of Wales wears the brand quite a bit.

however, I went to a high end department store to look at some a few years back and thought they looked no better than something you’d get from asos. I wasn’t impressed in the slightest. Didn’t look worth the money to me. Off vinted? If a decent price, I’d give a go for a design I really loved

Beautiful dresses, I have a few. Totally agree with this, I'm a size 6-8 & all mine are a 12 they come up small x

Another vote for SP here - I have a few pieces. Love the quality and the fabrics. I’m a size 10 with a big bust but can’t say that I’ve struggled with the sizing but it may just be the style I’ve chosen. They do really well on Vinted if you decide to splurge for an occasion and want to sell afterwards.

Thanks everyone for replying. I now just need a special occasion to justify buying one now! And I will remember to size up.🙂

I went to their flagship store last week looking for a dress. They were absolutely gorgeous dresses and the assistants were wonderful but on 5ft1 size 8 me they were hideous!
At least I can stop thinking about them now 🤣

Wommmble · 03/09/2026 13:30

I think they were unique a decade ago but have been copied loads since.

Really good quality. You just need to watch the length for your height.
