Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

Old thread here

Doing a live sniff test report as ive bought a 10ml of dvn havana gold which has just landed.

Blind buy...eek

Goes on nice, reminds me of jazz club but has a liquorice note. Slightly sweet. A bit like rock the myrhh.

For a blind buy this is great. A bit boozy, can't quite get the tobacco notes I wanted it for. Will see how it dries down.

My SOTD for most days recently has been Zara Ebony Wood. I still like this and it's an easy reach at this time of year.

Don't please. I am not going to return it anyway - but I am nearly certain I got someone's return

Advententhusiast · 17/10/2026 15:04

JHAG Miami Shake. Dont think I like it. Im very mid on this

I didn't like that one either, a really artificial strawberry note. Sickly and cloying.

Are we talking about the regular or new Scherzo Extrait? I really want to try it. I'm slightly disappointed to see that MH has increased the price of samples so much - they're suddenly £5? At £3.50 each, I regularly ordered to try new fragrances, and nearly always led to buying a larger size (I love MH).

I feel peevish that the increase is such a large one and I'm now holding out on sampling for a new winter MH bottle.

SOTM is Abel Double Scoop again, which I've gone from loathing to looking forward to spritzing inside a week Grin

SOTD woolong cha

Fillybuster · 17/10/2026 16:04

SOTD Mind Games Queening. Glad I got a sample because the initial fresh citrus floral dries down too sweet for me. Shame, as I was excited about this one but I think will sell as it’s not my style.

Have they? I always use coupert and get around 20% off, I bought the samples kit recently which is £40 for 8 and got it down to £32, with free delivery.

If you haven't installed coupert it's well worth it.

So weird how that can happen sometimes. Unfortunately I'm not a fan whatever I do with it, so gave one to my hairdresser recently instead of a tip (she's a perfume fan so more than happy with this arrangement)

Would it bother you if you pay full price for 100ml expensive perfume from online retailer, not resale - its a perfume shop and it looks like it was someone's return? I paid less for the whole selfridges advent, it is expensive purchase. And the bottle is very dark, no way to see how full it is. The box looks older and dustier inside compared a box I bought bottle recently from one of us that feels new. The dust is inside, not ouside the box. Its odd. They did give me 10% new client discount, took 2 weeks to deliver, send me lovely samples and I am overall OK with it but it didn't feel luxury experience. I wouldn't expect this from Byredo, Parfums de Marly etc. It's supposed to be new. I don't think it was tester in store as it feels too full

I don't want to complain, I love the perfume and I don't want the hassle but not sure I would buy from them again.

SOTD woolong cha

In my wishlist

MiaN · 17/10/2026 18:10

Dust inside the box is just odd. Maybe the seal somehow got unsealed over time? Even my used perfumes dont have dust inside the boxes.

On more positive side I sold The Last Mango and The Ormonde Jayne for half of the cost of the advent and now what I have left is even more amazing value. I love having Patchouli Gourmand Fragrance Du Bois - the bottle is so pretty. Completely out of my comfort zone but we are going to see Vivaldi Four Seasons in few weeks and I will dress up and wear it and feel fancy ☺️

I've never heard of coupert! I'll check it out, thanks for the tip.

SOTE is MH Staccato. Mineir and Staccato was a fabulous twin launch, imo. I really like both of them.

Edited to add my thought that I tend to dislike mint as a top note in fragrances, except in Mineir, where I think works beautifully with the sage and 'cold air.' It's probably my favourite winter daytime fragrance,

I opened box 3 of my Harrods Advent Calendar yesterday and sprayed it immediately. This one is a winner for me. I love it, it's so magical 🧙🏻‍♀️🪄 I'm wearing it again today. I feel it's perfect for autumn.

Photo marked as sensitive as I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone else.

I just came on to ask about this one!
And the memo one

As I'm watching on vinted. I think I'll take the plunge.

I love staccato - I pair it with Babylon from Penhaligons and it's a perfect combo - sweet yet spicy.

Wasn't so keen on miniere

Coupert will change your life - you'll never buy anything again without it. You just run it when you get to any checkout and it will test loads of discount codes.I've saved a fortune with it over the years.

Today's SOTD has been Guerlain Amber Samar. A beautiful, unique autumn fragrance 🥰

IDontHateRainbows · 17/10/2026 22:09

I've been making friends with my new Havana Gold - so pleased the blind buy worked! This is a bit like gambling!

I can see myself like a scratch card addict only instead of scratch cards it'll be blind buys from selfridges or space nk - only travel size mind...

Ok tested the Queening today. I do like it but Id have to try it again to see if its a keeper. Also Le Labo Matcha which I really like on paper. On the skin i find it quite sharp but after 30 to 60 mins it has a nice dry down. Dont think ill keep the Thameen Riviere. I dont dislike it but it doesnt grab me either. And after having a peoper look at my stash.... no I have too much now, so that will be sold. Ill keep the Patiale from the Hfag for now.

JasmineMilkTea · 17/10/2026 22:49

Extremely annoyed. I don't remember which Liberty box or AC had Sana Jardin's Air of Aquarius. Just discovered the bottle was leaking and is almost empty. I should have known when the label was slightly smeared.

There's a wee bit left in a pretty glass bottle. I'm not sure what to do with it. For now, I've put it back in my box of perfume samples.

That's my lesson to always check all product, even if at that time, I never planned to use it.

Edit: SOTD is a sample of the new Guerlain l'bleue. It turned sharp on my skin.

I traded The Last Mango for the Milk Orchid which Im very happy about. Because it was the only reason why I wanted the Glossybox advent. That and the hairtowel lol.

Also sold the Ormonde Jayne for 85 euros within 15 mins. Id probably wouldve gotten more with patience but just glad its gone. I really didnt like it.

NC543210 · 17/10/2026 23:56

I'm going to join this thread if that's okay

Today I am wearing angels share.

I also sold the suede silhouette. I really, really disliked it. I'm going to buy more rude oud with the proceeds. Going to check vinted as it's a very marmite fragrance.

MiaN · 18/10/2026 05:31

Maybe they sell quicker outside UK as there is exclusive to Selfridges, limited availability factor? I don't sell much but when I do I use Facebook groups. Irish only right now bout some EU in the past. If you buy from a person in can be send as a gift and less additional taxes

MiaN · 18/10/2026 06:14

I actually have no idea what perfume I want today. I have too many new at the same time! I am going to go for gong, I am still getting to know it and it's strong but doesn't wear heavy.

I love the One Umbrella for Two and won't let the little dust inside the box ruin it me. They have send me Parumes de Marley and Jovoy samples and everything was well packaged and I would shop with them again. It's Italian niche perfumery, and they have some things that aren't as widely available
