Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

The advent didn't arrive, just sample. Testing D&S DURGA Ain't that sweet and Dres Van Noten Camomile.

Scent of the day Initio Power Self. This is gorgeous 😍

I used to love Orla Kiely's Fig Tree perfume. It was simple, green, very early-autumn with lime and bitter orange... not expensive but lovely.

That sounds gorgeous!

@MiaN I picked up a couple more on eBay.

Lurkingshark · 14/10/2026 10:52

SOTD Hera reign liberty- been waiting for it to come back. The right oud for me.

It really ain't that sweet. Honestly I do like it but I am not tempted in getting a bottle as it's not a scent profile I would go for. If someone next to me is wearing it I would think they smell great. It's smooth, grown up vanilla

OvaHere · 14/10/2026 11:52

SOTD is FdB Patchouli Gourmand. I love this once it's dried down. That initial Patchouli hit when first sprayed I find a bit harsh but it soon settles down and becomes a lovely scent.

MiaN · 14/10/2026 11:54

Advententhusiast · 14/10/2026 09:13

What do you think of the Camomille? I find it fades too soon and end in just vanilla or something. Its a lovely scent in the first hour

Now I am thinking did I actually spray something else? I will have to test it again. If it was, then I am really disappointed - I expected.

demantoid · 14/10/2026 12:02

SOTM is Abel Double Scoop - third attempt. This time I like it. I still cannot detect any of the top notes, but now I know the initial sweet butterscotch/vanilla softens quite quickly, I actually like the dry-down.

It's really not my usual kind of buy at all - I steer clear of vanilla/gourmand, but it feels good for the changing of the season. I still want to layer it. I've got last year's Ffern autumn fragrance that I'm wondering about.

IDontHateRainbows · 14/10/2026 14:22

Not a fan of the double scoop so gave it away as a present. I have TF Tobacco Chocolat on from the tiny sample. This one is ticking my boxes for a festive scent. It's a bit orangey - a tobaccoey chocolate orange. The tiny sample will soon be gone and the FB are £££ even for 30ml so it may have to be a present from Mr Rainbows for xmas...

I fear me and Dees Van Noten won't be besties. Velvet Violet is bit intense for me. Which one should I try next? I have good few samples

I like a bit of DVN. Have you got Chamomile Satin? There's also a lovely orange blossom one and a basil one.

I have the sample. Great penultimate but the drydown fell very flat.

MiaN · 14/10/2026 18:58

Soie Malaquais is starting strong!

Lurkingshark · 14/10/2026 20:11

Soie malaquai! So lovely. Dream bottle wish list. I liked the santal greenery and the flier de map and orange one. This is from two sniffs session rather than testers. I think it’s been said but the full size bottles are so gorgeous. Works of art.

IDontHateRainbows · 14/10/2026 21:22

I love DVN very under rated house, enjoy the sampling.

As for SOTE, ive (re) discovered commodity juice, lovely comforting berry scent mmmm

This is gorgeous Sur Ma Peau Dries Van Noten. I am not Vanilla fan is general but this 👌 👏

Will my advent arrive today?

Twinsandsome · 15/10/2026 07:07

Could anyone recommend somewhere to buy samples before I start ordering the scents I wanted to try from the SFAC off eBay. Chat gpt saying I might like le lebo matcha and musk therapy but when I’ve googled samples for like 2ml is 15£ etc xx

MotherWol · 15/10/2026 07:19

@Twinsandsome I like Small Aromas for samples, they tend to have a good wide range. I’d also recommend Cult Beauty - they have a five for £5 offer on a small range of samples. Notino are good for designers, and the build your own box offer is good. Also keep an eye on Facebook, I’ve had plenty of designer samples through that.

MiaN · 15/10/2026 08:34

Postman come and gone so it won't be today. :(

Fillybuster · 15/10/2026 09:01

After getting incredibly lucky and scoring an SFAC on Tuesday morning (whilst wearing Debaser in Bloom - side note, I keep swinging between DinB and D, and can’t decide which I prefer. Some days I love both. Some days neither!), I popped into Selfridges Oxford St on Tuesday evening to check out the various scents I wasn’t sure about or didn’t know.

I only had 30 mins. Found almost everything. Should have taken notes (of course!). Was on my way to an evening work event so didn’t want to test loads on skin, will need to go back in tomorrow to check one or two things properly.

Loved MG Queening. Also loved both Memo perfumes (esp Madurai) from the JLFAC.

Surprised by how much I like the Ex Nihilo Lust in Pardise - was much more my thing than Blue Talisman.

Not sure about the Thameen (will prob gift to ds or DH) or the FdB Patchouli Gourmand: that’s one I really need to try on skin I think.

Loved the Halfetti (but annoyed I bought on Vinted right away because a) I don’t need 2 and b) prices are already dropping!)

Hated the Ormonde Jayne. I got such a strong impression of bubblegum!

Initio Musk Therapy I loved, quite like lift me up, but Oud for greatness not for me. The lovely assistant got me to try their new one (gone blank on name but they gave me a sample so I will check and report back) which is absolutely gorgeous on card.

I didn’t like the LI or V Canto scents. Didn’t check New Notes or Bibbi because a) I ran out of time b) my nose stopped working and c) I don’t like gourmand scents. But I’ll have a sniff when if go in tomorrow.

edited to add: per my note on the advent thread, until very recently when I found these boards I had no idea that there was any way to purchase perfume other than fs. Getting a GWP felt like a potluck win - would never have occurred to me to check out different stores let alone that I could buy travel sizes to check out a new perfume. I’ve spent ££££s over the years, sometimes on complete errors, always full size. Even this May I bought a full size perfume from Harrods to qualify for the GWP without even considering that what I really wanted was about 10ml not 100ml!! So this whole process is a complete revelation and very exciting, and I’m super grateful for everyone’s advice and experience!!

MiaN · 15/10/2026 09:46

Amber Latte - Essential Parfums. I don't need full bottle but will enjoy the few samples I have

demantoid · 15/10/2026 10:56

SOTM is Miller Harris Violet Ida. It smells really weird on me today - powdery and baby-lotion.

Fillybuster · 15/10/2026 18:05

SOTM: Bibbi Ghost of Tom. I liked it on card but not on my skin

SOTA: Fugazzi Angel Dust. Lovely, but not for me. Too sweet / vanilla. I’d love it on someone else. Will be selling my BT bottle on Vinted.

IDontHateRainbows · 15/10/2026 18:58

Sotd ds durga radio bombay. Nice. Spicy meets skin scent. Hint of coconut.

Fillybuster · 15/10/2026 20:08

Also tested today: Ex Nihilo Fleur narcotique (sample received with BT advent) and Initiio Power Self. It’s very rose-forward. Lovely, but not for me!

I have a growing collection of 2ml bottles that I know I won’t use up after one spray. I’ll try to post a photo on the fb page over the weekend in case of interest to anyone on here.

Yes, you absolutely have to try the FdB o the skin. Made a mistake on that one. On paper disgusting, on skin lovely.

Liquid Imaginaires really changes throughout though. I'd test it on skin too but dont be too hasty on saying no.
