Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

I’m loving Lola at Coat Check at the moment and will be another one on the Vinted looking for one from the Selfridges advent.

Also enjoying Goldfield & Banks Sunset Hour but I’ve almost used up my travel spray because it’s so weak.

I've been watching them on Vinted but cheapest is listed for about £60 with some over £100. The 50ml is £130 new so I'm not willing to pay that much from a BAC. I've sold off my unwanted Harrods scents with a higher RRP for much less than that.

This is why I end up with so many advents. It's making me want to buy Selfridges BAC which I really shouldn't do. 😬

CorneliaStreet · 05/09/2026 15:56

@OvaHere I’m the same, I keep eyeing the Selfridges advent just because of the perfumes. I think I’m more likely to get Sephora though.

I think you said you hadn't bought one yet so 2 wouldn't be unreasonable. I bought 4 this week. 5 if you count Harrod FAC from last month. 😳

This is why i end up doing it though. I stalk Vinted and eBay then end up deciding it's better to buy the calendar, keep what I want and sell off the rest. I'd probably pay £40 for Lola but not much more.

TragicMuse · 05/09/2026 17:09

I went for Granado Citrus Basilis this morning. Nice but not very enduring.

I'm going to be strong and not buy Selfridges because most of it isn't for me. I'll wait and pick up Lola at Coat Check on Vinted.

I dug it out of the pile of samples in my desk drawer because someone mentioned it was reminiscent of CK's Obsession. That was MY perfume back in the day and I still have a bottle although I never wear it in case someone comes over to say that the 1990s want their scent back. I don't find Lola very similar but I do think it has that same slightly heady quality. I always thought Obsession was a red lipstick, faded Levi's and a Jack Daniel's kind of perfume. Lola might have a similar vibe but she's a tad more matcha latte than JD on the rocks.

I agree, that's sensible. There's a reason I haven't bought Selfridges which is because I don't want the vast majority of it. I didn't know I wanted this perfume until this morning! 😂Vinted it is. Also there's a chance I may buy Sephora next week which is bad enough.

This is a nice fig scent. Not sure how it compares to Le Labo.

Have you tried Debaser by DS and Durga @Fillybuster ? There was a small one in the Space NK advent last year so likely quite a few knocking about on Vinted Smile

MiaN · 05/09/2026 18:47

I’m wearing one of my recent HN closing-down purchases today — Eight & Bob Il Giardino dell’Anima.

It’s a really interesting perfume that I probably wouldn’t have bought at full price, but I’m so happy to have it in my collection. On my skin, it’s creamy-nutty from the very first second, with a very strong, realistic pistachio cream opening — and I mean real pistachio, none of that sweet, gourmand Yum Pistachio Gelato by Kayali vibe. It’s not particularly sweet; it’s much more nutty and creamy.

It’s supposed to have bergamot and pistachio in the opening, ylang-ylang and jasmine in the heart, and pistachio cream and musk in the base. But it doesn’t really develop in that structured way for me. The pistachio is there immediately and, after about 15 minutes, it becomes lighter and starts to shift into something more fruity-floral, while still keeping that creamy, nutty quality underneath.

It’s a very interesting fragrance, and it feels absolutely perfect for this weather and this time of year, now that things are getting cooler. Despite the notes, it doesn’t feel summery to me at all — on my skin it goes from creamy-nutty to fruity-floral, and somehow the whole thing feels much more autumnal than I expected.

While I like the initial blast, I do appreciate it much more in 15 minutes when it settles.

It's not the type of fig you are looking for but the Tom Ford figue erotique is fantastic

Fillybuster · 05/09/2026 19:51

Thanks for the warm welcome 🥰

I’d welcome suggestions around scents to check out. I’ve bought Liberty BAC and JL FAC, and planning some time at Liberty to sniff everything in a couple of weeks to avoid opening things I really don’t like.

Until recently I’ve been a “choose one scent and stick with it, maybe with another for evenings” kind of girl, probably because everyone in my family is like that. And now I’ve realised that there’s a whole world of scent out there and it’s way more fun to play the field.

I’ve been a bit all over the place on the perfume front (including high/low!): my first scent was Eau de Lancôme (bought for me my by grandma on my 12th birthday), then Sunflowers through uni and early working life. Annoyingly still the scent that makes DH smile the most.

I’ve had a series of heartbreaks - which I why I now need to shake things up:

Sensi (Armani). Wore that & the White Notes variant until it was discontinued. Still have half a bottle I spritz occasionally.

Aqua di Parma Iris Nobile, my go-to for work every day for about 15 years. Discontinued. I have 1.5 bottles remaining.

Marc Jacob’s Pear: bought a huge (massive!) bottle of this from SNK when dd18 was born. Still working through it. Light and fresh. Appreciate it more now than when I first got it.

Tom Ford Sahara Noir, the first perfume I really fell in love with. Strictly evenings only! Discontinued. Half a bottle left.

Tom Ford Noir for Women. Discontinued. Half a bottle left.

And I have all of these too, which I mostly quite like that I like but don’t quite hit the spot:

Wilhelm Parfumerie Fig - nice enough but not quite what I wanted

Aqua di Gioia, which I bought again recently. Nice enough for a summer scent but doesn’t rock my world.

Le Labo Neroli 36, bought a large bottle, forcing myself to finish it, definitely a mistake. Too watermelon.

M Micallef Delice - quite like this and have 2 10ml bottles, but probably wouldn’t RP

And my possibly dirty secret: a bottle of EA Green Tea, which is a lovely cheap mood boost before I head to the gym!

Yes it is indeed more of a rich sweet one. I'm mourning the running out of the bottle i got on my birthday.

What about Bastide's Figue Amour? That's also like DS&D Debaser so might be one to try, if you haven't yet...

It was in a calendar or box in the last year or two so might turn up on Vinted.

HolidayHattie · 06/09/2026 00:16

I wore Debaser in Bloom again today (technically yesterday I suppose) because I didn't want to write it off after only one try. I'm still not mad on it so I guess I'll have to give away the other samples of it. But life's too short to wear perfume I don't love.

I loved the cheapo, simple Fig fragrance that Orla Kiely did years ago. It was very green, very daytime. It's discontinued now, but I'm just happily reminiscing!

I really like this one. There is a full bottle of it in an Advent Calendar. Didnt expect to like it but I do. Doesnt last long on me though. Maybe 2 to 3 hours

Petit matin MFK for me today. Reminds me a little of Neroli Portafino actually but I think there's some lavender? My husband has recently succumbed to fragrance after me wanging on for years and is today wearing ex nilho blue talisman extrait. I'd originally bought it for me but although on first blast I love it, it has that musc ravageur thing going on whereby I can't escape it iukwim. Let's just say he keeps looking at his bottle and saying look how much I've used already! Not going to last long! (4mm gone 😂)

MiaN · 06/09/2026 07:04

Oh he is going for it. I bought my husband Naxus recently and he went out with mates to watch football game. Me and my son had to have a talk with him after - you don't spray 10 sprays with Xerjoff perfumes. He is oversprayer.

I am struggling what to decide today and as I bought so many hits, some blind buys. Ladies I will really miss Harvey Nichol's. They had best perfume selection in Dublin.

I have done lingering Alia Main Character on my top I use for my weights this morning, I have only few drops of my travel. I am leaving toward Eight & Bob again or maybe the Killian paraiso. Both seem perfect for transitional time
