Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

Old thread here

I’m testing phlur vanilla skin edp that was in the selfridges edit, which has just touched down. We don’t have phlur here so was looking forward to trying it. This is the type of thing I’d reach for when I’m just at home and need a comfort scent to reach for (which is today). It really does just smell of vanilla extract! I probably wouldn’t reach for it often but I’m happy to have it. Will test the per se (laundry scent?) another time. That one doesn’t seem to be my thing as I rarely get on with aldehydes but let’s see.

paristotokyo · 08/10/2026 06:43

Not keen on the selfridges fac personally but hope those wanting to get it, manage to bag it! Also the HN isn’t my thing except I’ve seen the vyrao is full size and intrigued whether it’s the older (better) version or reformulated.

IDontHateRainbows · 08/10/2026 07:03

Testing eau duelle edt, not usually a diptyque fan but I liked the edp in store. Edt is a bit different and not as nice. Seems weaker and its ok but I prefer the edp.

Frantically refreshing selfridges app no news yet and need to go to work!!

Me too, even though I don't think it's going to work with my Irish account number. I have UK post box address in the north, so I will give it a go.

MiaN · 08/10/2026 08:34

I have team meeting that I am chairing at 10, I may have to push it later! I am kidding of course, I wouldn't do that.

MiaN · 08/10/2026 08:46

Scent of the day is Gong and I love it. It's so so nice! ❤

QueefofSheena · 08/10/2026 09:07

The wine was flowing a bit too much last night so I ended up ordering HN as I wasn't wearing my sensible head. I really like some of it though so I'm serene about it.

Of course, I woke up wanting Selfridges so I guess we'll see. No sign of it so far and I have a site meeting soon. I may need my hard hat for both 😁

MiaN · 08/10/2026 09:14

I am 95137 in the queue, no hope. Space NK really need to think re perfume advent market - there clearly is very high demand

paristotokyo · 08/10/2026 09:15

Put on per se 27 87 after a shower, the vanilla skin was getting a bit too much (definitely not a day scent for me in this weather) and I like it! It will be great for the post shower gym bag I think. Pleased with that. My box of treats has made my day today. I’m usually not a clean/detergent fragrance fan but this one is nice and soft. Perhaps my nose is changing..

QueefofSheena · 08/10/2026 09:29

152666 😁 I've accepted its a no but I'm curious how long it will take to sell out. I wonder how many they have?

MiaN · 08/10/2026 09:37

if you have it on the Wishlist keep trying that way! It really was less then a second and I had to do it good few times until I manage to click quick enough

QueefofSheena · 08/10/2026 09:46

Thanks @MiaN I tried but I wasn't quick enough. I was buying for the ExN really so I'll try my luck on Vinted.

I liked that one, it's a lovely laundry scent- a surpise win from the box

Did anyone get it through the queue I wonder? I was trying to pay for it few times... until it gets through with 3 different cards. I can see the in process transaction 1 time in one of my credit cards, 5 times in the other and in the end I ordered with debit card.. they will drop off the extra charges in day or two but I am glad I don't have any urgent need of them - 7 transactions in totally. Only one order so not worried

Definitely a surprise win! I’ve spritz more on as I’m really liking it. I wouldn’t have even considered it had it not been in the edit.

Sorry to those that didn’t get the sfac, hopefully there will be another drop.

MiaN · 08/10/2026 14:29

Had a lunchtime workout & shower and little skin test of Absolute Aphrodisiac Initio. It really reminds me of Sana Jardin Sandalwood Temple - not my type of scent.

JoRaRaRa · 08/10/2026 15:58

I was really fancying FDB Sirene today, I really like this one and can't wait to get the privee version 🥰

HolidayHattie · 08/10/2026 17:10

Granado Tropicália today. Think I need to find something very soothing and comforting for this evening because I'm still upset.

Lurkingshark · 08/10/2026 18:38

Lovely to hear about FAC. I’m pleased with the HNFAC as it’s rose heavy which I love! If anyone hears about discounts let me know.

SOTD the hedonist- ex nilhio. I like this a lot but fleeting today. From a kit or calendar in 2024 and a rebuy.

Fillybuster · 08/10/2026 18:45

I’ve already shared my SFAC fail on the advent thread so won’t repeat here. Have been working from 2 supplier offices on either side of Oxford Circus today so was slightly tempted to pop down in person but decided it wasn’t worth the scrum or the likely disappointment.

A fire alarm this morning gave me an unexpected 40
mins to check a few more things out at Libertys, and I was so much more organised this time - I knew where I was going AND I had all my BAC & FAC lists with me.

Noted as follows (although was a total whizz around!):

Killian Love don’t be shy too sweet on the dry down (but liked the Angels Share on the rocks & got a sample); FM Carnal Flower not for me. Liked the Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman EDP much more than first time around (regret selling the liberty bac Extrait but does mean I will def keep the BT 50ml EDP),will sell MP Crystal Saffron, a hard no to Bibbi Vanilla but surprised by Swimming Pool. Will have to go back and try that again on skin. And surprised by Sisley Eau de Soir which I had assumed wasn’t for me. Have a sample of that to try too. Fugazzi Angel Dust sample bottle annoyingly was in the process of being replaced so will have to do that another time.

Also had 45 mins lunch break so went via JL store. Gosh, what a dispiriting experience! It’s such a shame, because i love JL and have been a loyal customer for most of my
life, but the Oxford Circus “flagship” store experience is utterly dire. The high end perfume brands (like MFK) do try to create a more premium experience in their little corners, but they’ve got expensive products like P d Marley & Maison Crivelli heaped up on little stands alongside Floral Street etc. It’s all a bit of a mish mash and none of the staff have much clue about any of it.

Even worse, when I asked about several perfumes that are in the JL FAC, they told me to go to Selfridges, Liberty or HN!

Seriously, why would JL put things in their FAC (esp the Nishane which is fs) that you can’t actually try in store?

Anyway, rant over. I couldn’t try the Sirene (& forgot it was the privee I wanted to try) because all the sample bottles have been nicked, but they did give me 2 actual samples. And I did check out a couple more MC and
MFK scents, as well as the Essential Perfume Fragrance du Bois (not sure, inoffensive) and the M Margiela fireplace (hard no for me).

Surprise find (although def not buying for time being) was MFK Amyris Homme. Absolutely delicious! I need to go back and investigate that one again.

I never do the blind buyswe had similar experiences then. All the bottles were empty as well. Honestly what is the point lol

MiaN · 09/10/2026 06:08

I really thought it is going to be the first year for me without any advents, so happy to order Selfridges fragrance with the favourites glitch. I fully believe it that a lot of resellers knew how to get ahead and bought in large quantities but hopefully the restock helps. Little disappointed they decided to not have any boxes :(. hope they arrive in good shape

I am going to try to wear my favourite fall perfumes for few days, and only test a drop on skin once in the morning - before my morning wall and once after pre bed (but giving myself few hours before bed). My nose need a break and my sense of smell do not want disappointments.

Skins little layer sample set is surprisingly enjoyable, milky is the perfume drop for the morning.

I will go for Gris Charnel as scent of the day.

MiaN · 09/10/2026 08:17

SOTD is actually Lost Cherry. It's bit lost on me at this stage I have to admit, I should have used it all up while I was loving it

JoRaRaRa · 09/10/2026 08:42

@MiaN I feel so lucky to have bagged a sfac too with the hack. Mine's meant to be arriving today, I hope it turns up. I'm always so nervous until it's actually in my hands. I'm going to open it like I'm doing with my HFAC, 1 a week so that I get to use each one on the run up to Christmas 🥰

I think resellers were able to set up bots to get to the front of the queue and buy much faster then a human ever could. There's so many on eBay now, some with up to 30, but they only show the Selfridges website image so obviously not store purchases. I think Harrods have been able to reduce the bots so let's hope that Selfridges can as well for next year.

I hope they cancel that shit and check adresses for orders and do max amounts per address but I doubt it.
