Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

Old thread here

No, I didn't try the Simone Andreoli as I do not like oud. I gave it to my son, who loves oud and was happy to take it.

I will try the vanilla on skin at some point. The green tea is not love for sure, but it really isn't as bad as the initial blast.

IDontHateRainbows · 06/10/2026 14:36

TF Tobacco Chocolate today- I managed to snag a 2ml sample. Lovely but not sure it's one I would get bored of after a while. I guess the sample will tell!

Also have the new juliette has a gun - purple trouble - which is blackberry and chili notes. Haven't tried it yet - waiting for the right moment. It may be very up my street as purple is my favourite colour, some people would say I'm trouble and I like blackberries and chillies!

I would appreciate any help you knowledgeable folks can offer me. I recently had the misfortune of falling in love with Chanel's gardénia eau de parfum from their far too expensive Les Exclusif range. I would love to know what those in the know about perfume content would suggest as a similar product.

Advententhusiast · 06/10/2026 14:47

Athenais from PDM

Finished my sample today. I like it but it doesnt project well. Def not a full bottle. I stil have 2 5mls. Might sell one off.

RoseTeaLady · 06/10/2026 15:13

@dudsville Check out Fragrantia. There’s a few suggestions on there www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Chanel/Gardenia-936.html

MiaN · 06/10/2026 15:13

Oh no. Demon Dancer dries out with oudy notes :(. This box is kind of miss for me - unless the Vanilla saves the day. My son will be happy!

MiaN · 06/10/2026 15:42

And the roasted green tea opening is so trough, i wouldn't put myself through trying to make it work. It's only a minute or two but smells like rotten food. it is little funny how much I dislike that

MiaN · 06/10/2026 16:43

well, my son is delighted with his goodies so I am going to change the rating to a hit for the family, but probably not one for me personally. Good to share!

I am curious about purple trouble.

I went for La Prairie again.

14 years ago today our kid came to their forever home and this scent is what I wore exclusively in the early days of our adoption.

When I wear it, my now-teen says I ‘smell like mummy’. And so I chose it today to mark the day.

Lurkingshark · 06/10/2026 20:40

@dudsville did you smell it at a boutique? I have been testing that line at airports for the last 3 trip I’ve made.

Whilst that line is a lot nicer than others, I thought (and the nice assistant said) that the DNA is very Chanel and there may be some of the mainstream ones if you can char to someone . Otherwise Club avolva ( sp? Basically a duty free loyalty points) have 10% off when you join.

My favs from that were Coromandel, Sycamore and Le lion - woody to your florals!

Paco Rabanne Million Red for Her. From the perfume shop addy. Its a fruity, easy, vanillary thing. A bit basic but sometimes you don't want the avant-garde stuff, just the easy cosy designer frag. And tonight this is it.

I've managed to come away without bringing any perfumes. Thankfully only one night.

MiaN · 07/10/2026 08:06

I must limit the days of the week I test new perfumes! I was so disappointed yesterday, I forgot how bothersome I find unsuccessful blind buys such as the circuit de soleil travel, as well as the skins box as was just not the right call for me. It motivated me to sell few things in Irish group and give some more of my stash to DS. I don't think Ex Nihilo is brand I love as the drydowns let me down. pardon the pun. I sell things very cheaply and as usually there were few people chasing me in the same time - I won't have to deal with it long, I will pull out the circuit de soleil as it's the only one that didn't sell in one hour.

Abel The Apartment. I like this house Abel. This is a warm, cherry rum scent. It's nice but not wowing me. But enjoyable for a change and perfect for autumn and the trend of boozy scents.

I’m going away till Monday and have packed:

MP Vanilla Powder
Lannosea
Figue Amour
Granado Citrus Basilis
Swimming Pool
Air of Aquarius

I think that’s enough!

MotherWol · 07/10/2026 13:05

My purchase for the month has arrived: a travel size Orphéon. I really like this, to me it smells like having bathed with luxurious hotel soap and powder, before slipping into freshly laundered sheets. DH remarked that it smells vintage and like his nan, but not in a bad way 😆currently wearing it layered with Eau Duelle because it's a WFH day and I can be a fragrant delight when I'm not in the office.

@TragicMuse It's so lovely that they've built that memory, and it's so evocative for you. I see the La Prairie perfumes pop up occasionally on Vinted, but they're ££ but maybe worth keeping an eye out?

Orpheon is mystery to me, I can smell very little of it. I have tried it many times but I get natural skin scent and nothing else. I don't have that with any other perfume!

MiaN · 07/10/2026 17:20

Are we all hoping for the selfridges advent tomorrow! I will be afraid to go walk the dog in the morning. Although, I don't know if it will accept my Irish payment card - the shipping address is in UK

I'm hoping to get one. I'll be scared to get a shower 🤣 It says that they deliver internationally, so it should be ok, I would've thought ☺️

MotherWol · 07/10/2026 17:50

@MiaN I love the advent calendars because it means I can pick up the ones I want on Vinted! Most of the Selfridges one is not to my taste, but I’m hoping someone puts Musk Therapy for resale as that’s been on my wishlist for ages but I could never justify the full bottle price!

MiaN · 07/10/2026 17:54

I joined pafory for few months so I can get travel of musk therapy!

IDontHateRainbows · 07/10/2026 18:07

Molton Brown Tobacco Absolute for me today. I like this - it's tobaccoey but not smokey, a bit lemony but not sharp. One of the few MB's I really like.

Yes I'll be fingers at the ready from early although annoyingly have to go into work for meetings early doors usually I can leave a bit later. This happened with harrods FAC and I ended up buying off an ebay tout but was still worth it.

I'm not going for Selfridges. I'd love the ExN bit the rest is either a bit meh or I have enough already. That may change in the morning though 😁

Went out for an early dinner with friends tonight. SOTE was Debaser in Bloom from the CB 5 for £5. I still prefer the original
