Shiny new thread just in time for the new season - I'm thinking smoky, spicy gourmands as we head through autumn.

Old thread here

I love Infusion D'ylang - it's a realistic yellow flower scent reminds me a bit of lust for paradise.

The Ex Nihilo one? Not sure if I've got a sample of that somewhere... must have a look and try them together, if I have.

That Guerlain calendar is truly a thing of beauty. I'd probably ruin it by drooling over it. I'm not in the market for something like that, it's waaaaay more than I can afford, but oh my, I can just imagine that on my dressing table.

paristotokyo · 16/09/2026 05:49

Carte Blanche Ode Ona today. Just looking the notes, it’s totally my type of fragrance on paper. Meditative, calming, slightly herbal with a spicy edge. But on me it’s just not a love unfortunately, so I’d never buy a fs. I think I’d prefer if the tea and citrus were more prominent maybe. It’s a travel size from some kit or another which I’ll use up.

MiaN · 16/09/2026 06:46

I decluttered Carte Blanche. I got in a mood to declutter again and I have bag going to my niece, my cleaner and some maybe my son. I just have too many and I want to wear my favourites and stop testing for a minute! Very timely declutter before holiday.

I should really look at my citruses, I have too many but the rest feels better curated.

Like can not be entry to my collection - I have some really good perfumes!

IDontHateRainbows · 16/09/2026 07:31

Ever 11 today - was in a cherry mood. I like this, not fb worthy but the 10ml size is nice. Loads on usual selling places as it was in the liberty calendar.

I'm going to try not to get full bottles of anyting in future unless it is an absolute love. I'm just too fickle and always want the next thing so 8-10ml sizes are perfect for me.

I bought some of the cult beauty perfume samples, here are my thoughts...
Huda Beauty Easy Bake Intense; I really like this, it's fruity, creamy and powdery, and I feel like it's a year-round fragrance. It's not too serious but it's not too playful either, just right. That said, I'm not sure I'll be buying a fs bottle anytime soon as I don't feel like it's different enough from other fragrances I have. Some people online have said this smells of fish, but I honestly don't get that at all!

Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia; I have a 30ml bottle of this in the Harrods FAC and I thought I'd give it a proper try before I sold it. Unfortunately, it just smells like a Glade air freshener to me. It's pleasant enough, but I don't want to wear it. I'm going to try it again in a few weeks but I think the bottle will be going on vinted.

Kayali Freedom Musk Santal 34; Gorgeous! I ordered this to help me decide which cult beauty advent calendar version to buy, so I'm really glad I've now got the mini in the calendar. I absolutely love this fragrance.

Le Labo Thé Noir 29; I really don't like the tiny dabber sample of this because it's so fiddly and teeny tiny, but I absolutely love the fragrance itself. It's dark, mysterious and sexy. I'm a big lover of fig and tea, so it's no surprise that I love this one. Unfortunately cult beauty where I have some credit don't have the small bottle in stock.

Discothèque Eye Contact; Another gorgeous one, but I think it's a bit masculine leaning, I might see if my husband wants to try it.

MiaN · 16/09/2026 10:59

I have forgotten how much I love Velvet Aura by Rituals. Such a shame it was limited edition.

paristotokyo · 16/09/2026 13:02

I’ve ordered some samples from zoologist which I’m patiently awaiting as it’ll be a few weeks until I receive them. I fell down a Reddit rabbit hole reading all the reviews and they sound so interesting! I ordered some of the more ‘crowd friendly’ samples with a couple of wildcards thrown in like ‘T-Rex’ which has a reputation for being one of the more challenging ones. Not expecting to love it, just for the experience really. Anyone tried anything from zoologist?

paristotokyo · 16/09/2026 13:07

@MiaNI think I’m going to use up the Carte Blanche as a room spray as I prefer it in that format I think! It has lasted a long time though as I can still smell it on me.

MiaN · 16/09/2026 13:16

I didn't dislike it. I just feel the need to wear my favourites for some time, vs testing non stop. I got rid of allot, some former favourites.

Lurkingshark · 16/09/2026 14:35

Will be interested to hear the zoologist testers? I’ve only come across them on Reddit and I both love / hate the positioning.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/09/2026 14:36

Fallen out of love with Vyrao Ever 11 as it doesn't last 5 minutes such a shame. I like a good cherry scent particularly this time of year, favourites include Carolina Herrera very good girl elixir and TF lost cherry. I actually have a very good dupe for the TF - Afnan cherry bouquet which is a fraction of the price but smells almost identical.

And of course, now that I am all deculttered, I have space for more - so I went and I ordered 50ml of Figue Erotique.

I haven't managed to get the Korres Fig scent yet. We've moved hotels and the pharmacy here isn't quite as good. Hiring a car Friday so I will look for more.

SOTD your turn 2. I’m obsessed with this, it’s like a spicy plum vanilla

Have you smelled your turn 2? Plum, vanilla, fig and tea. Meant to be quite similar

Parfumerie Muse are doing their bag of samples agin, with a £50 spend this time

SOTD was Armani Acqua di Gioia. I’m regretting buying a massive bottle of this in a moment of nostalgia back in May. It’s nice enough, but £135 is a waste for “mostly harmless” when I want “I feel great about myself today”. At least I bought it discounted down from full price (& got the Harrods GWP, so kind of made up for it!)

V excited to spend 45 mins in Liberty’s tomorrow evening post work / pre theatre (off to see Electra at the NT with Cate Blanchett!!) sniffing my way through the BAC perfumes and working out what I like. Will report back!

MiaN · Yesterday 04:39

I finished my little la bomba travel yesterday and I enjoyed it more that I thought. Its not really a me scent but it is one I enjoy indulging after warm bath in the evening. I plan not up repurchase for now, only as I have other things to use up for same purpose but not dismissing it for the future.

MiaN · Yesterday 05:24

I enjoy the experience of full bottle. The spray is different, having the bottles organised & easy to see enjoy the aesthetics of the bottle. I am 100% for buy the smallest possible size, use it up fully before considering full bottle but if I love the perfume and I am getting good use of it I do want to have a bottle.

I was looking at what I am left with - my citruses could do with some downsizing I guess. I don't love VB Portofino most of the time but I do have the occasional day. I don't reach out to Chanel Chance eau Tendre - but I do enjoy them when I do. I decluttered a lot over the last days - but I don't need to cut down on my perfumes just for the sake if it either. I need to get better in wearing exactly what I want when I want (appropriate of environment) but other then that I need to enjoy vs ration - I have some amazing perfumes that deserve love!

I feel better after the declutter thought - few that I was trying to like and I wasn't really are gone.

MiaN · Yesterday 05:42

I have splurged on a few bottles lately — Cult Beauty sale for a couple of long-term wishlist items, Harvey Nicks close down sale for some close to blind buy perfumes, and of course Symphony and Figue Érotique.

Ironically, I probably spend less overall than I used to when I was buying all the advent calendars, particularly as I had a few vouchers to use towards Symphony.

I’ve been through hell with work over the last few years. I also dealt with some health issues. Last January I finally decided I had to make a change, and it took a lot of effort, self-funded training, upskilling, job searching and a few moves before I finally landed somewhere that feels right — the right people, the right environment and, location and set up importantly, the right tools to actually enjoy my work again.

So I’d say four and half out of the last five years were pretty miserable, followed by about a year and a half of actively working my way out of it. I’m finally in a happy place, and I think I’ve earned a little bit of easy-reach joy.

Perfume is something I genuinely enjoy, and I don’t feel guilty about spending money on it. And realistically, being on the jabs means I’m probably not going to be buying much clothing for a while anyway! I’m also making a real effort with exercise, eating well and planning ahead, so I’m happy to have something that is just… fun.

And honestly, being part of this group is part of that joy too.

paristotokyo · Yesterday 06:26

Did a big sniffing session today as I had a couple of hours this morning. Visited a Sephora and a local niche perfume store.
Tested mostly on paper:
Kayali bake intense - big nope. Not my type of fragrance at all. The dna of this house is not for me
Rare beauty new green one - better than the first rare frag (vanilla one) slightly more interesting but again not my type
Burberry goddess amber vanilla - again not for me,
CK body mists - was expecting to like the nude vanilla but wasn’t a fan but surprisingly liked the satin creme more, it’s a fruity vanilla but don’t think I’d purchase. I do want a vanilla body mist so I might go for phlur
BTSO - fig porn. Very figgy but not in the way I like. Tried dirty rice too as I was intrigued but knew I’d probably not like it. It was ok, milky almond rice but this is another brand I don’t vibe with
Essential parfum - Fig infusion. I do think I liked this one, but wasn’t an immediate love on paper but wish I had tested on skin. Annoyingly by this point I was drowning in tester strips and I was getting confused 😂
Maison Crivelli - citrus batikanga. Big no. This one reminded me of Indian food?! Or maybe chai.. not what I want to smell like.
Then I went to what I actually wanted to test
Diptyque eau duelle edp vs edt tested side by side on skin. I love the edt more (fresher and more airy) and it fills the gap I have (day time vanilla scent on hot days) so this is my next fs purchase :)

Have a streaming cold today and can't smell a thing! So I'll be sniffing vicariously through you lot. @MiaN glad your career situation has improved and you have found this thread a source of pleasure!

Sounds like a really good place @MiaN - well done on you.

id love to be a bit fiercer on my perfumes- realised I have a few “meh” and definitely one or two I don’t really like but am using. The Liberty summer kit was a real mixed bag for me, I sold a few but have a few on the go which are just ok. You are inspiring me to be ruthless.

I will be going to an airport soon so am going to hunt down the fancy new ones to spritz. I love hearing about spritz sessions here.

@Fillybuster I go in the evening- sometimes you get lucky with samples from bored assistants, especially if you are chatty. Never got anything from Vilhelm ☹️. It’s a lovely way to lose 45 mins. If you haven’t, smell the Dries Van Noten ones. I think @IDontHateRainbows got a sample set but the FB are suitably £££ and beautiful to warrant a ten minute stop!

Fillybuster · Yesterday 08:54

@Lurkingshark thanks for the tips! I’m worried I won’t have anywhere near as much time as I need.

SOTD is Le Labo The Noir from a dabber. This may have been an error, as I stuck it on without sniffing first. I remembered not loving it when I sniffed in store ages ago, but was inspired by someone’s enthusiasm (maybe @JoRaRaRa ?) for tea and fig, both of which I love too, on the advent thread. It’s a much heavier scent than the The Matcha, which is fine, but also sweeter (I need to learn more from @MiaN‘s vocab!!), and I don’t think I’m really a sweet scent person. Although, given how little I know about all of this, who knows…..🤷‍♀️
