To pierce or not?

I‘m turning 40 later this year.

I‘ve always been into alternate music and fashion. But you wouldn’t really know to look at me. I‘m a teacher, wear floral dresses or jeans and t shirts.

I really want to get a piercing. I think it would be called a low labret. About a centimetre under my lower lip. It would be quite shocking to most people around me, but not to those who know me personally.

Has anyone else done this? Is this my mid life crisis talking?

Anywhere that you pierce on your face will be the place that everyone who looks at you focuses. Do you really want everyone to stare just below your nose? Or fix on your nostrils? If so, then go for it!

Nose piercings scream barista or hairdresser by the way......

Thanks all. I think I‘ll reconsider. Already have some gum issues including receding gums on my lower teeth so it probably wouldn’t be a good idea!

A bioplast bar can stop any gum issues! Something I wish I’d leaned before my snakebites eroded my gums. If any metal mouth jewellery is coming into contact with your teeth, switch to bioplast. 40+ piercings and 6 mouth related piercings. I’m 37 and know my rodeos.

What? I’m neutral about this, I have no piercings. Nose piercings don’t ’scream hairdresser or barista’ though, they’re usual in all kinds of roles. I know people who had them done back in the 90s, and young professionals now that have them.

Eh? The OP is neither a barista or a hairdresser, not that there's anything wrong with either.

Nor am I, but it's reassuring to know that stupid people might think I don't have much money as I'm less likely to get mugged, at least provided they don't realise that the gold in my nose is likely worth more than everything they're wearing put together.

Plus it'll make a change from them just staring at my tits. What do you suppose people focus on when they look at you, @Pineapplesonpizza ?

Piercings are an individual choice, traditional expectations are ears. Anything else people have their own views on them.
If you eant it done the good for you , if you dont like it them tske it out and it would heel.
Ive had a number of different piercings over the years some ive kept other i take out and they heal.
So go ahead and enjoy someone a bit different i suspect once you start you eill get more

And posts like this scream narrow-minded and dull.

I’m 40 haven’t had piercings since I was a teen - last month had my nipples pierced!! Did it out of pure adrenaline (midlife crisis maybe 😂) on a random Tuesday and you know what I love them - never was a fan of my boobs before but honestly I think they look amazing now - go for it, and it’s removable if you later don’t like it.

Just be prepared for a long healing time

As others have already said, a low labret can be problematic for teeth. But definitely look into other options. A vertical labret would be great. Maybe have a chat with a piercer and they could talk through various options with you. I don't have facial piercings but I have had three cartilage piercings in my ears and a tattoo done since I turned 40. No regrets!
