What to wear with wide leg trousers for wedding

I am going to a wedding in November and have no idea what to wear. I hate buying clothes so want to buy as little as possible. I have some fairly new navy wide legged trousers. What could I wear with them? We've been told not to wear dark colours. I'm 5'6" and size 12/14.

What’s the jacket situation ? Do you have anything velvet or embroidered or otherwise not work like? I have a men’s vintage smoking jacket in a green Chinese silk so I’d probably wear something like that with a silk shirt or cami underneath. I also have a navy velvet blazer ( nothing expensive… just something I got off vinted” ) which I might add a big red flower brooch which is a bit Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex & the City. I appreciate these are quite specific items I have here and I’m not suggesting you have those but I think
its possible to style something like navy trousers to be more celebratory. What have you got as a starting point ?

Massimo Dutti have a few draped tops I think look pretty special and you could wear them more casually afterwards with jeans etc. Bearing in mind the month you could also look at metallics … bronzes etc.

I wear a lot of chiffon blouses from Jigsaw or Mint Velvet with wide legged trousers. You can then wear them loads with jeans and a cardigan. So something like this

I guess you'd need a jacket over the top though.

Thanks - that's nice and a good suggestion. Annoyingly, the invitation says 'not green'! But I could look for something similar in another colour.

I'm very much a casual t-shirt sort of person so I'll have to buy some sort of jacket. It's a shame I've not still got all that velvet stuff I had back in the 70s! (My own wedding dress was red crushed velvet.)

How about a bright, short kimono jacket with navy as one of the colours? Monsoon have some
