Im still using a Chanel eye shadow set, its 40 years old.

Not as classy as you, obviously, but I have a Boots eye shadow tin that's 44 years old.

Full disclosure: haven't worn eye shadow for at least 10 years but don't want to part with it

I’ve got a Dior lipgloss that I got for my 21st birthday and I’m 42 now….. I still occasionally use it and it’s stunning! X

I have some bronzing powder that must be about 40 years old – but that’s reminded me I really should throw it out. How can you still be using it after 40 years? Haven’t you used it up already? Hasn’t it gone manky?

My one and only lipstick is one I purchased for my wedding. In 2012. I’ve been divorced for years, meaning the lipstick outlived the marriage - I went to replace it last week and realised it’s £38! For a lipstick?!??!! It’ll be soldering on for another decade I think

Most of my makeup is only 10yrs+ …but I have a small mirror that came in an Estée Lauder set over 38yrs ago.

Don't use it but I have an Avon lipstick of my mums from the 60s

I recently binned mine, about ten years old. I had to do it but I miss it!!

In what way would, or even could, eye shadow go manky?

I dont wear make up very often.

I've still got makeup kicking about that I bought when I was at school 30 years ago. I've got nail polish that I acquired around then that was DMs and she'd had it for god knows how long before giving it to me to play with. It's in varying stages of dried up - I've put some acetone in some of it with varying degrees of success.

I have my mum’s White Shoulders perfume from 30 years ago. Hardly any left but it’s her scent. 🥰

The powder should deteriorate with oxidation – it’s definitely the kind of thing you’d be told to throw away in case you gave yourself an eye infection. But if it’s working for you then great.

Make up has preservatives in it to stop bacteria that’s introduced into it from growing because it can cause infections. The preservatives stop working after a time which is why makeup has a shelf life.
It’s also to stop the growth of mould which is what I’d be more worried about if it’s decades old and you use it occasionally.

I threw all my make up out a few years ago, and started afresh. I thought I should.. for hygiene. Was I wrong?! Eeek! My beloved Meteorites collection!!

And it hasnt deteriorated at all. I do wear it when I go out. Its the only one I wear.

I completely panned this only about 6 months ago. I bought it on a plane to Vancouver well over 10 years ago. I bloody loved it.

I have a St. Michael (M&S) eyeshadow palette that I bought with my first wages from my Saturday job at Woolworths, when I was 15. I’m 70 next April 🙈

I also have a Chanel eye shadow set, but its a youthful 25 years compared to yours OP

You won’t always be able to see fungal growth. Using old products can cause infection. If you want to take that risk, it’s your call. It’s like saying food long past it’s expiry date looks and smells fine, therefore must be safe to eat. Maybe, maybe not, but it’s going to be unpleasant to discover if it’s not.
