Best eye make-up for crepey lids and dry eyes in your sixties?

Hello :-)

I'm in my sixties and live in London. For many years I've had dry eye which is pretty well managed with drops night and morning. I have normal skin which is very good for my age (beautician neighbour drummed skincare into me from my early teens). However, inevitably, the skin around my eyes has become a little crepey and whatever I use in the way of eye make-up settles into the creases and forms lines and blobs - yuck!

I much prefer eye shadow in powder form as every single brand of cream/pencil that I've tried (and that's a lot!) is worse than powder. My go-to is MAC, which is somewhat better than the rest but I still get lines and blobs with it. I've tried all types of eye shadow base (both cream and powder), some of which make a slight difference but still don't solve the problem.

Naturally I've Googled/AI'd this, but none of the recommendations work for me. So, please, has anyone found a solution?

I’m 55. No advice sadly but following with interest. Even eyeliner goes on ridiculously badly when your eyes become crepey. Good luck for some more knowledgeable than me to come along.

Have you considered permanent eyeliner? I have the same problem as you and don’t wear eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadow. At 58 I’m ready to try a subtle upper lid tattoo. I’ve had my eyebrows done and loved the results.

Shamelessly giving this a bump! Surely there must be some manufacturers who get this right, or are they only interested in young, entirely smooth skin?

@MyManinCaracas Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately I have multiple allergies (although not to any make-up, thankfully) and have been told that I must never have any kind of tattooing as it would likely make the allergies worse.

I use a primer and it makes a massive difference. It was in Home Bargains and I bought 4 of them as stocking fillers but have decided to keep them as I’ve not seen them stocked again.

I use the 2 palest colours for a more natural no make up type look, as you get past 50 less is definitely more. I also ditched foundation in favour of a good tinted moisturiser.

I'm 62. I use a gel liner to tight line then use the same gel liner very close to the upper lashes but smudge it before it dries to give a softer line. I always use a eyeshadow primer ( Mac) on eyelids because the skin is redder than it used to be and also because it makes eyeshadow colour more "true" and eyeshadow looks so much better applied over a primer. I use eyelash curlers and apply mascara to lashes. I don't use anything except mascara on lower lashes. I think liner, eyeshadow in that area creates shadows and is aging.
The best eyeshadow I have found is Trinny in the little pots, very easy to apply and some nice, subtle shades. Less is more at 62.

A good primer base does make a difference; I use the urban decay one for anti ageing.

That MAC product in Painterly is also a good base

Just to add, I had permanent eyeliner (upper lids) years ago. I had it done several times as it fades to pale grey. I thought it was fantastic but I wouldn't have it done now because I think it would be very aging.

After trying many eye primers that caused excema ( the mac one was the best for instant results but gave me the most awful excema ) and eye watering I tried a Clinique one which was great but expensive for such a tiny tube. I tried a boots no7 stay perfect eye shadow primer and it works really well and is really good value so I'm sticking with that now.

I use the Hourglass concealer around my eyes and on eyelids and it creates a very good base for eyeshadow. It’s the best concealer I’ve ever used and while it’s expensive, it lasts for ages. I can never prone to irritation and eczema too. And have had no problems with this product.

I really enjoying wearing Patrick Ta duo eyeshadow. I’ve got a beautiful colour and it’s so pretty that it just cheers me up to apply it.
