New wardrobe

I’ve realised I’ve got a mom wardrobe. Have no clothes for nice nights out and literally have jeans and plain tshirts.
I’ve gone through my wardrobe and have a lot of next, primark and M&S tshirts. They don’t seem to wash well at all.
where can I go to get nice everyday tops and trousers that will last!

Do you want new things or will you be buying from Vined etc?

What style do you like, what look are you going for?
I actually don't mind next and Primark for t-shirts, but I've not really tried M&S for them.
Things that I've got that get a lot of use in my wardrobe are a pair of satin trousers, a pair of khaki cotton utility style trousers, a pair of wide leg cullottes, and boat neck sleeveless tops. All of mine are Tu/ h&m level of quality, but seem to be okay. If I was after spending on the next level up, I'd check Cos and Arket for all of these things.

Uniqlo t shirts and tops are good quality. I have their barrel jeans too which I love.

You could branch out of t-shirts and get nice blouses/ shirts. I find M&S good quality and Cos / Arket have nice t-shirts but with a little something extra

There's not necessarily anything wrong with jeans and t-shirts, but you might want to experiment with styles. You could also experiment with other styles of trousers and tops. There's absolutely nothing wrong with functional clothes, but you can be functional and stylish. I definitely rate uniqlo but have quite a lot of secondhand clothes I've accumulated over the years.

Will have a look at uniqlo. I’ve recently brought tshirts that seem to have shrunk after a few washes. Even though they’ve been washed on 30oc!

Anyone tried the halara trousers??

What dress size, height and body shape are you op?
What sort of things do you like ? What’s your colour palette/ season?
would you consider swapping jeans with cropped barrel trousers for example with a boxy t shirt and big jewellery?

I buy from Vinted. It means I can try things I wouldn’t usually and I’ve been a bit more adventurous with my choices. Lots of it is brand new. I’ve recently had two new skirts with the tags on for a few pounds.

im about 5ft 5. Normally a size 10
but think going into a 12 with weight creeping up. I’m a soft summer.
my main issue is footwear. I only have trainers and a pair of flat shoes. So never know what else I can wear if I didn’t have jeans.

I have some Halara jeans and really like them but you have to be careful laundering, low temperature and don’t tumble dry. I’m on my second pair as DH tumbled the first ones and they no longer fit.

Look at the Trustpilot reviews re customer service. I liked the look of them until I read the reviews.

Re halara, I have the leggings and flared leggings for the gym. I returned a pair of trousers and the money was back in my bank 48 hours later. I’ve only bought from the halara shop on TikTok

Halara is decidedly "mom wardrobe" - & it's also pretty shitty on the sustainability front. Lots of greenwashing.

I'm definitely a trousers woman and only rarely venture into skirts/dresses. Tbh, I wear lots of different styles of jeans, but am quite tall with long legs. I also wear lots of different styles of trousers - over the summer I've been in a lot of balloon/harem trousers, but appreciate they're not for everyone.

Thinking of cooller weather, I've got a pair of thick, cotton, navy wide-legged trousers from anthropologie from a few years back, a black , jersey wrap over pair from Forgotten Tribes (be warned, their quality is variable), a very dark navy, wool pair in a wide/barrel like style from Toast. I like statement trousers, but again they're not to everyone's taste. I have a few more wool trousers that are more classically shaped, one in grey from Great Plains and another in tweed from Maxmara (charity shop bargain).

Go to insta and look at stylists, I’m older so my style probably wouldn’t suit. Many are great at basics, then styling so you can look dressed up/down. I think Penny loafers can really elevate most simple styles. Accessories too and can help update without too much expense.

I think style is 3 things:

1. Your personal style: this is the most important. So are you casual, classic, edgy, feminine etc. Or a combination.

1. What shapes "suit" your body shape. How different styles and fabric look on your body and how you feel about it

1. What different colours "suit" you. Your colour palette and how it looks on you.

Have you considered going to a style and colour session.? I went many years ago and know my colours and styles. Instantly when I go to any shop ,charity or new I know what suits me. Equally I don't make mistakes on Vinted or eBay. This has no doubt saved me a lot of money over the years. I am plus size and often get praised for my style and colours.

I like T-shirts from Autograph at M&S, Whistles & Boden. They all wash really well & last forever. Though I always wash everything (bar towels etc) on a 30/40 degree delicates or wool setting. I also generally don't wash things after just one wear (as it seems many do from a recent thread!). So that may play a factor in longevity, OP??

I generally don't buy new - I have got most of my Whistles ones (they bring them out yearly in different colours) on eBay/Vinted. The basic one is called Rosa.

The current favourite company seems to be House of Colour. The lady I went to has retired and she was totally independent. I follow a few of HOC consultants on their face book sites and they certainly know a lot about colour. Their session covers which colours to wear ,which styles suit you make up . I was lucky enough to go on a WEA course and the tutor had trained with CMB originally. Quite often people ask me about the colours and styles I choose. You will get loads of info given to you. It is a fascinating subject. I like Judi Prue's face book web pages as she is plus size like myself. There used to be an American magazine called Mode sadly it closed down after 9/11. That used to be brilliant as I used to wear similar outfits that they featured but I had to find them in Britain. The articles were worth reading and they mainly used plus sized top models to show the clothes.

@madaboutpurple I went to an independent colour/image consultant about 15 yrs ago. I agree it was very helpful, I think it got my style back rather than "gave" me a style. I bought some tops from Kettlewell which were excellent quality in lots of colour options and have lasted well. I haven't bought anything new from them, so I can't vouch for more recent items, but might be worth a look.
