Black tie shoes for a jumpsuit when heels and narrow flats hurt

I'm going to a black tie event in October and just realised that all the shoes I have that would be suitable, are NOT suitable for my newly arthritic big toe.

I'm wearing a formal floaty black very wide legged jumpsuit - it's an ages old one from Phase 8, my go-to for formal comfort. It skims the floor in heels. So I need to get it taken up to accommodate the fact I can no longer wear heels.

Narrow flat shoes are also uncomfortable.

WTF do I wear on my feet? I've been wearing barefoot trainers - or walking barefoot - all summer which doesn't help. My toes and foot have spread out beautifully and my walking gait is now brilliant, my whole foot is stronger now and compensating for the stiffness in my toe joint. My toe rarely holds me back.

Until I force it into a heel or a narrow shoe.

I don't want to wear sparkly flip flops. Not my thing, and it's October. I can maybe perhaps wear box fresh satin trainers? Not because I think trainers are ever black tie - far from it - but because my job means I could get away with it, within the context of the event.

ANY ideas? Ballet shoes?!

If fancy trainers are an option I'd definitely go for that. I find any other attempt at comfortable shoes looks frumpy, for want of a better word. I have ruined many an outfit by trying to find somehjgn comfortable for my feet!

I'd also go for fancy trainers. Black, not too trainer-y with a bit of gold on perhaps.

If your jumpsuit skims the floor in heels, whatever shoes you wear won't be too visible at all. I'd get the shoes first, then have the jumpsuit taken up so it works well with whatever shoes you get.

Can you wear wedges? I can't do actual heels or narrow-toed shoes (chronic bunions on both feet) but oddly I can wear wedges, which are my go-to choice when I need a bit of height. I have very short legs so I often need a bit of 'lift' so I don't look like a Dalek.

I’ve had painful bunions my entire life. It makes any dressy event a nightmare. I’ve got to the point now where I only wear trainers. Anything goes nowadays and nobody actually seems to care and you can get lovely sparkly/ pretty trainers to match your outfit.

I'm thinking of buying this from Next - Black Forever Comfort® Formal Bead Wedges

Sparkly converse style?

I don't know if I can wear wedges - I'll try some on next time I'm in a shop.

I just tried a different jumpsuit on and I much prefer it, but it has narrow ankle. So that would make my shoe visible.

I am tempted to just fuck it and go trainers - you have all empowered me...

esska shoes are genuinely comfortable for someone that finds all other heels excruciating.

It’s honestly just a confidence thing. Literally nobody cares and almost everyone is more worried about what they look like.

No-one will die if you wear trainers.

You say you could get away with it. Of course you can.
What does not getting away with it look like?
Getting turned away from the event?
Getting fired?
Disciplinary action?
Affecting your reputation and standing?

Nope. None of those.

Wear the goddam trainers.

This is true. I am the boss so I won't get sacked ;-)

I just called the event organiser and they said fancy trainers are absolutely fine.

Everyone can stand down unless they want to help me find cheap as chips coloured satin trainers.

The alternative jumpsuit that I'd prefer to wear is still v formal and could only be worn to something fancy, but it has a sleeker silhouette, 3/4 sleeves and a narrow straight leg.

I have a clutch bag and big necklace combo that I often wear together, that are statementy and colourful. Lemon, turquoise, lilac and mint green. It would be good to pick one of those colours out in the trainers, I guess?
