What do you use others than standard nail polish ?
I’ve spent a fortune on powder dips and I’ve been using them a few years and just can not get them right or get them to last .

Holy gels. Total game changer.

LoafofSellotape · 19/08/2026 08:25

No7 top coat is amazing, really hard wearing and you don't have to wait for everything to dry first.

Dip powder nails for me, I’ve never had nice nails and have ended up with long, well-turned out nails for the first time in my life.

Opus3 · 19/08/2026 08:32

Gel x system or similar.

iveseenthefilms · 19/08/2026 08:33

Mylee gels

Nincompoo · 19/08/2026 08:37

The maybelline superstay anti fragile bonder is amazing. I don’t tend to use the colour coat as the colours are shit but I find the bonder makes a massive difference.

bonder
colour coat x2 (any!)
sech vite

Can usually get 5 days out of nails and I’m hard on my hands.

Tortephant · 19/08/2026 08:56

Very simple: Nailberry: base, colour, top coat.

Which brand? I use Glamrdip and I’m ready to give up

Sassy Saints. Though I get the impression they are moving away from dips and more towards wraps, there’s been no new dips launched for months.

MrsBunny2018 · 19/08/2026 10:18

I use Manucurist polish and keep my nails short. They seem to last a good week that way

GreenLemonade · 19/08/2026 11:59

Gel wraps. I use Heyhae.

I’ve been looking at these but I worry my nails are an abnormal shape so they might not fit

I wonder if I can use something like this over the powder dips I’ve already got as like I say I’ve spent hundreds and it feels like such a waste of money

Mylee or bluesky gels.

somanychristmaslights · 05/09/2026 09:49

I have a Mylee gel kit that I do at home.

The essie gel couture top coat is brilliant

I only managed to give up biting my nails about 18 months ago. At first I used Sally Hanson Maximum Growth to help them grow, now i use Sally Hanson Hard as Nails either on its own or as a base coat under a colour. I always wanted lovely long nails and now i have them.

funkyhousehill · 05/09/2026 11:32

Gel nail wraps have been a game changer for me. I always had chipped nails as I would always compulsively pick off nail varnish.

I bought a UV lamp and some UV gloves (apparently UV can age your hands) and I buy wraps from Amazon at £7.99 a pack. They’re rock hard but don’t damage my nails. I use a dissolver to take them off. I get so many compliments on my nails now (as opposed to forever trying to hide them).

UpToonGirl · 05/09/2026 11:38

I've just started using Manucurist flash, they seem like a gel / polish hybrid. You have to cure them but the removal is just a quick soak with their remover and the polish literally curls off. I've only done two sets with them but I'm quite impressed.

Normal polish only last a day (sometimes hours) no matter the prep. The two rounds I've done I removed at day 7 each time and they only had a couple of tiny chips - mainly from where my nails were already breaking it weak when I put the polish on.

Cotswoldmama · 05/09/2026 14:07

I used sassy saints dips for ages but they really damaged my nail or the removal of them. I used lil and fox nail wraps now, no lamp needed they are like stickers. They usually last me up to 2 weeks and are only 1.99 per pack. Rimmel do a great gel like top coat I usually use on top. All their gel style polishes last quite well too

Weightbegonepls · 05/09/2026 14:50

I bought a mylee gel kit with lamp etc - usually do with a friend so we can do each others rather than try and acrobat style attempt my toes

mommybear1 · 05/09/2026 15:08

Glaize nails I use the stick on ones game changer no more chipped nail polish, long lasting and look great - my nails underneath stay healthy as well.

CostcoFanofThree · 05/09/2026 15:22

I’m really impressed with two products in particular;
Londontown peptide serum and
Londontown KUR nail blush strengtheners.
The blush doesn’t chip it fades a bit at the tip over the week but easily lasts 7 days.
