Drop waist dresses can get in the sea

Surely that’s enough already? Does anyone actually like them? Every time I see a nice summer dress - proportions all wonky. WHY.

I’m a bit dense about fashion terminology, could someone share an example? I haven’t particularly noticed this as a trend this year so maybe I’m thinking of the wrong thing…

This New Look one is representative of what I can’t seem to get away from. And now my algorithms will be pushing me adverts for more. Eurgh.

You see, colour aside, I like that and very much suits my body shape

I got this one from Tu, it looks really good on, it’s a sandwash black fabric that drapes beautifully - I may alter the neckline though 😬

Haaate them. They need to piss off. Along with tiered skirts and puffed sleeves.

That's not too much to ask.

Oof yes. I look like a cutesy whale in all these.

LoafofSellotape · Today 07:06

Midi dress can fuck off as well, if you're tall they are completely the wrong length.

I suppose I’m pleased - although highly surprised - that some people are benefitting.

Even when I was model thin (I’m 5ft 9) they look dreadful on me, I don’t think they suit many people tbh.

lovingthebeachlife · Today 07:30

oh & I have a short torso & bigger boobs but they don’t look right

Gateappreciation · Today 07:32

Reminds me of being a teen. Not tried a modern one on yet.

PatioDwellers · Today 07:41

I don’t remember them first time round. But I have one that I find very comfortable for the beach and the garden, but I’m not convinced I look good in it. Long torso, short legs, big boobs.

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · Today 07:52

That example wouldn’t look good on me, but drop waist dresses are generally the best kind for me. Even at my slimest (9 stone, which I am not currently) I have a big belly (split stomach muscles plus it’s where my fat goes). Plus generous boobs. So with a normal waist I look fat, with a high waist I look pregnant, but with a drop waist I can look slim.

ChaToilLeam · Today 07:55

I am short, large of nork and broad of hip. They are terrible on me!

Purplecatshopaholic · Today 07:56

They don’t suit my shape so I don’t wear them. High waisted trousers really do, so I do! Dress for your shape and clothes will always look more flattering

Rustyhandlebars · Today 07:57

I'm petite and they look awful on me but my daughter also petite wears the free people above knee style and looks great. Anything long though would look dreadful on her, like wee willy winkie.

Marroon · Today 07:58

I think they can be quite nice.
Really there are so many retailers and brands there are always enough options to shop, no one is making you buy them.

And here’s the problem - you can’t get away from fashion - your body shape is either in - or not

I’m most certainly not buying them - but the shops are full of them and not dresses with proper waists, which I want. It makes it much harder.

I am confused as to how to dress for my shape. I am 5'7, size 12, long slim legs, but big belly and a D cup thanks to menopause.
What kind of dress should I be buying? I rarely wear dresses.

Oh thats not what I was expecting
Im tall and slim on my upper half to my hips which are generous
I look fabulous in this type of thing and I love those ruched waist culottes and skirts for the same reason

I thought you meant the shapeless but comfortable drop waist dresses
Essentially it just doesnt suit YOU
Hardly makes it vile 😂

They suit me. Massive boobs and a short torso are balanced out far better with this cut

Presumably I also possess the wonky proportions!

You just described me. They suit me too.

That shape suits me. I think it is to do with how wide your hips are. If you have narrow hips or in proportion with your bust and fairly slim it will suit you. If not, then no.

Im all legs, very short in the body, great in jeans but look ridiculous in anything with a high waist. So high waist jeans can get in the bin for me.

suburburban · Today 09:26

Compared to the drop waist dresses (think Brideshead revisited) of the 80s these look normal waisted to me

the dresses of the last few years have been almost empire line on me

possibly as my bust is bigger but a larger size would be too big everywhere else iftms

Why not look like a sack of potatoes.

Tiered skirts have gone on for far too long. They are slso impossible to iron.
