Clueless about socks!

Could someone stylish please help!

I am 49 and no longer know what socks to wear when they're going to be visible (iyswim).

In particular, I've just bought this jumpsuit (which i love): https://www.forgottentribes.com/collections/jumpsuits/products/hemp-organic-cotton-corduroy-jumpsuit-with-patch-pockets

I'm 5'8" and the bottom of the trouser falls similarly as on the model. I will likely wear boots of similar shape to hers some of the time but what if I wanted to wear trainers? What would you all recommend? (I have some black vejas and also some pale leopard print ones I thought might work.) Do i just go with black? And how long/short should they be?

I also have the same issue with a pair of ankle cropped (7/8) jeans. (And shorts when I'm not wearing sandals, for that matter.)

I try to match my socks to my top if I want contrast, or match my shoes or boots if I want to keep continuity.

In colder weather, I don't like exposed skin on my ankles or legs, so will find a higher sock. In early fall you can do a slouchy sock and expose some skin.

This lady on insta has khaki trousers, red socks and black loafers. Looks great!

@mdinbc great suggestions and I love those red socks! I'm the same - I don't want exposed skin in the cold.
