Laser removal on bikini line

Looking for advice from anyone who has had it. How to prepare, how painful it is, etc. I’ve booked ten sessions which is hopefully enough but grateful for any pointers on what to ask for. I don’t want everything off! Just enough to mean I can say goodbye to bikini waxes and ingrown hairs etc.

Do it! I’ve had about 7 sessions of laser on my bikini line and I was VERY hairy. It’s a joy not to have to shave or wax.

Any reputable and responsible laser practitioner will do a patch test first. It’s painless except for the very occasional electrical-type ‘zap’. I had to shave before each session to enable the laser to penetrate the hair follicle more effectively.

Hair goes through different cycles of growth and everyone’s different so some people require only a few sessions and others a few/much more.

For me, it was expensive but SO worth it. I also had the front and backs of my thighs and my bum cheeks lasered as well and it was £120 per session and I went once a month for seven months.

Yep. Had mine done forever ago. Was the best thing ever. I'm a wuss and occasionally a follicle with more than one hair in made me swear (which made the staff laugh), but generally easy and fairly pain free. Best thing I ever did. No drama now for swimming etc, and only wish I'd done underarms etc

I got lasered - legs, bikini, underarms - starting last autumn. Had eight sessions, four weeks apart, through the autumn winter spring. Absolutely the best thing ever. Currently on holiday with no shaving, not having had to pay for a wax, no stubble or regrowth or ingrown hairs. Throw on my swimmers and out I go, looking so much better than previously with other types of hair removal and no hassle.

I had electrolysis on mine decades ago and it’s never grown back , I had laser for 12 months on my top lip / chin and a lot is growing back despite me being dark haired . Lasering wasn’t the holy grail for me and I’m now having electrolysis again on this area .

I had it done about 20 years ago and apart from the odd pluckable hair has stayed away. I was very hairy so it’s been the best money ever spent. Things may have improved by now but when I had it done it was like little zaps with an elastic band.

I had underarms legs and Hollywood done. The underarms and legs are absolutely brilliant, best thing I have ever done. The bikini part of the Hollywood is great too, no risk of anything poking out but the Hollywood bit hasn’t worked that well. Face didn’t either. They’re both hormone related hence the result can be variable. But overall it’s a game changer. I had extremely dark hair especially on my legs and shaving lasted a day max and a wax about a week. My legs are now bare. Amazing

Thank you that’s all so helpful. Can I ask do you shave the bit you want lasered and leave the rest and they don’t do that, or do they sort of make a call on how far it goes, even on bits that haven’t been shaved? Thinking more about underneath where it’s harder to reach!

It depends on the laser and how much hair you've got. It can be painful, but it can also be painless. It's hard to say.

Following along after another holiday ruined by stubbly bits! No matter what I do I can’t get rid of the stubble on my bikini line.

Mary46 · 15/08/2026 19:08

I got ten. I still have do odd shave 2 yrs later.. maybe all hairs different. Its def very costly. It does work yes but def found I needed top ups)

Shortbreadel · 15/08/2026 19:11

It's worth it, it doesn't hurt.

HollyMcDolly · 15/08/2026 19:12

I’ve had Hollywood. Legs & armpits all done by laser & little bit uncomfortable especially more sensitive areas (Hollywood) but best money I have ever spent. Nothing has grown back & I have thick dark hair. Took about 8 sessions for Hollywood & 3 for legs & arm pits. Definitely recommend it

Walkingwalkingwalking · 15/08/2026 21:17

It’s been very effective for me but I found it very painful and had to have a few pauses to get through it. Overall it’s worth it though!

Mylifeisprettyshitrightnow · 15/08/2026 21:54

Go for it. I'm having everything off down there (so absolutely all my hair down there front and back 🤣) the bikini line is fine. It can get a bit prickly on the more sensitive parts, but bikini line I would say I could barely feel. 100% worth it, I am about 4 or 5 sessions in and I've noticed a huge difference already, hairs much thinner and easier to shave, not growing back as fast. I think you do have to keep it topped up after the initial sessions, so once a year but that's not too bad. You have to shave 12-24 hours before and make sure you don't have moisturiser or anything on your skin. I've had it done laid on my back, knees bent, feet together then drop my knees apart. I usually shower before I go and then I also go to the loo just before to make sure I'm "fresh" haha. Honestly just to not get in growing hairs it's worth it.

cannaethink · 16/08/2026 11:44

I had everything off, front and back. I booked 10 then had an extra 3 as top ups. I had a lot of hair and it grew incredibly fast so I’m delighted with the results!
Anything you want lasered needs to be shaved so you’d just not shave what you don’t want lasered.
The pain was like a pinging with an elastic band but over very quickly so I didn’t find it too bad.
I had it done at Therapie.

A friend was training to do laser years ago and I had 1 session. I have pale, freckly skin and dark hair. It felt like a rubber band being flicked at me, but she could dial the machine up or down.

I'd bought emla cream beforehand and that helped to numb the skin. You shouldn't use more than a 5g tube at time though and the cream needs to sit on the skin for at least 30mins beforehand, ideally 1hr, so don't rub it in.

My friend left the company, so I only had 1 session, but I only have maybe 3 hairs returned where she'd done it. I also had underarms done and they too were also left with just a few hairs- just from 1 session. I've read on MN about people say the hair will return, but 20yrs on, mine hasn't.
