Hair advice please

What could I do to make my hair style and colour better, I do spend a lot on hair care products and salon visits. I don’t really want short or bobbed hair, any suggestions? I’m in my late 50’s for context .

Was I wasting my time the other day then when I said age has got nothing to do with what you do with your hair? 😆. If the cut and colour suit you, then you don’t need to change it and you certainly don’t need a “bob” because someone says it’s age appropriate. If you feel you need a change, maybe go to hair salon and get some advice. Maybe highlights would work to break up the colour. Or maybe it looks fine as it is. Sometimes , darker hair doesn’t suit us as much as we get older because our complexion changes. But it can also not suit someone who is younger and whose hair is naturally that colour. I have a friend who, when I first knew her, had let her hair go grey. It looked fine. Then she decided to dye her hair back to its natural dark colour, and grow out her shirt style. She now looks amazing and much younger. Yet that goes against conventional wisdom. So when I say age has nothing to do with it, it’s down to you as an individual, that is a good example. The only thing I would definitively say is that hair condition is key

@smilesy no you were not wasting your time at all . I definitely don’t want short hair or a bob they are just not me. I think the colour could be better and I am open to suggestions. I definitely want to keep it on the long side but again open to suggestions on styles.

@Sallyissailing Just a note of caution. I have dark brown hair and am going grey. The default hairdresser solution to this is to put in highlights to blend with the grey. They talk about caramel tones then bleach your hair white and put a toner on it. It seriously messes with the condition of your hair.
I have got to the point where I just put my own toners on to blend the grey like Wella colour professionals mask- it takes less on the grey so I get "highlights" without the bleach

Your hair is lovely. I'd get a good stylist to give it a decent trim, and think of going for a more tonal colour.

I'm about your age and get advised to get a bob. No way. I'd look like Wendolene Ramsbottom.

I would say your hair colour is quite dark, and generally as we age that can look harsh/ be a bit draining, especially wearing black as well.

Do you know your colour season/ are you cool or warm tones? Does gold or silver jewellery suit you best? This helps a lot with hair colour choices.

@LuckyCharmz it’s navy blue but I know exactly what you mean, I never wear black these days.My colouring when young as similar to Jennifer Connelly or Courteney Cox , blue eyes very fair skin and very dark hair. My hair is in very good condition, I don’t think the photos necessarily show that, I have very little grey (but I do have some) I get a permanent on the roots and a gloss on the the rest .

I mean this gently, my hair is similar but much longer, it’s too dark. I’m also very pale skinned. I made rhe same mistake.

i have now some caramel highlights in mine, which lightens the over all effect. And I’ve raised the shade a couple of levels. So I’m now a mid cool ash brunette with caramel . It’s much more flattering against my skin. I’m 57.

If it helps, this is the colouring of mine, and about the lengths, but the highlights are not just at the front in mine.

So you put the highlights all the way around?

Is this your hair naturally or do you style it? It does look dark and a bit one dimensional without seeing your skin tone maybe a few caramel highlights particularly around your face?

Op mine is more like your last one. And yes it’s not just face framing but all the way round, but not a lot of it, if that makes sense, more at the front, it is surprisingly flattering. As we get older our skin needs softer colours.

I don’t like the middle one at all, I don’t like the sort of red tones, and prefer an ash brown, but we are all different, the first one is also nice, mine was more like that, but the caramel highlights has worked wonders against my pale skin.

You could ask your hairdresser to make it more up to date with the cut. As well as colour. It’ll grow back quite quickly. I like the style but maybe it needs modernising.

The cut is fine, it’s lovely and feminine. As said I’ve long hair and am 57. I think once your hair is long there is no need to go “modern”, it just needs to be in good condition.

I don't think you need to do anything to it - it looks healthy, thick, and I much prefer dark hair to light hair. Maybe one shade lighter would be nice, but it's definitely not a must in your case.

I'd rather play around with the way I style my hair rather than changing the cut or colour drastically.

It’s a bit dark for me at this stage @LejlaKapovic , I do want to make sure that I don’t lose the shiny dark hair look that I currently have though.
